20336Vintage photograph 2¼" X 3¼" tipped to heavy stock white-bordered beige bevel-edged 4" X 5" card n.p. 1900 July 15. Very good. Handsome image of this obelisk monument commemorating the 21st Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry's contribution at the Battle of Chickamauga signed boldly by photographer Tillinghast in ink in the margin at lower right. On the verso he pens bold and large: "Monument of / 21st Wis. Infantry. / Chickamauga. / paraph / Taken on the battle / field by A.R. Tillinghast / July 15 1900." Whether Tillinghast was a professional or simply a talented amateur we have not been able to ascertain but this warrants further research. Quite handsome and unusual. unknown

ANS 1p 5" X 8" Washington DC 7 March 1862. Addressed to "Sir." Boldly penned large and sloppy requesting a pass through the lines: "Mr. Strassberg from New York is known to me as a loyal citizen wishing to visit the Camp of Regt De Kalb and hopes he will get a pass to let him thru." Below his full signature he adds his rank "Lt Col Regt De Kalb". Tipped to a heavy stock 6½" X 9½" buff sheet with an appealing hand-drawn barbed-wirish rustic border. Interesting and unusual. unknown
