Book is in excellent condition with a publisher's flaw at inside upper back cover at corner: the endpaper was not glued quite correctly; otherwise flawless in light blue cloth covers. Binding is solid and square, covers have sharp corners, exterior shows no blemishes, text/interior is clean and free of marking of any kind. Dust jacket shows the slightest signs of shelf wear only, no tears and is wrapped in archival clear cover. With sections on 18th Century Revolutionary Army, Patriot Forces, Valley Forge, How Formed, Maintained, Food , Equipment, Relations between officers and privates, Camp Duties, Diversions Hospitals Prison Ships, Diaries, Soldier's Letters. B&W illustrations, 258 pages.

John Thomas Hyde (1832-1892) was Professor of fortification and artillery, Royal Indian Military College, Addiscombe. A rare and early photographic illustrated book not listed in Gernsheim; Copac records just two copies (British Library & Glasgow University).
