He was educated as a Talmudist. Mandelkern's greatest work is the "Heykhal ha-Ḳodesh" or "Veteris Testamenti Concordantiæ" a Hebrew-Latin concordance of the Hebrew and Chaldaic words found in the Bible Leipsic 1896 which almost superseded all similar works of that nature. This is an interesting work which is a Yiddish translation of "Werther's Suffering and Suicide" Goethe's famous first novel that tells the story of a young man's severe psychological pain from which he finds relief only by ending his life with a gun. The author asked his readers to respond with empathy to his protagonist's ordeal and thereby assumes a stance which not only mirrors a fundamental principle of psychological inquiry but which also helps the reader gain a deeper understanding of the inner workings of human self destruction. Age wear to wrappers; chipping to outer edges. Asmall closed tear on foot of spine. Another small tear on head of spine. Hinges starting.
