Second edition of the author's exposition of physiocratic doctrines, first published in 1776. Iselin (1728-82) was not converted to the ideas of Quesnay before 1772, and the present work was the first in which his new position was given full expression. According to Iselin, human institutions have corrupted the natural order of things, and in this book he develops a new constitution aiming at to reconcile the republicanism of his Swiss fatherland with the enlightened despotism of Quesnay. Iselin was also the editor of the German economic journal "Ephemeriden der Menschheit", which soon gained a great reputation and counted among its contributors many of the most eminent German economists. - Handwritten inscription, dated 1793, to flyleaves. It features brief biographies of the monarchs from Charlemagne to Charles VI, as well as ten magnificent triumphal arches, those for Rudolph I of Habsburg and Charles V constituting two of the most splendid examples. The engraved title shows a triumphal procession for Charles VI, featuring the Emperor on horseback, led by a group of angels and warriors as well as by Christ himself. The engravings were created by Johannes Andreas Pfeffel, Johann Ulrich Kraus, and Christian Engelbrecht. First published in 1700 in Vienna. - The pretty brocade wrappers are slightly rubbed. Karl Graf von Gaisruck, der Sohn des Gouverneurs von Obergalizien, wurde nach Studien in Salzburg und Passau schon 1801 zum Bischof geweiht. Kaiser Franz I. berief “den noch jungen aber erprobten Bischof von Derben durch Präsentation an die altehrwürdige Metropole von Mailand und Papst Pius präkonisirte den Präsentierten für genannte Kirche den 16. März 1816 [...] Wegen seiner lobenwerthen und klugen Wirksamkeit stand der Erzbischof bei der k. k. Regierung in hohem Ansehen [...] Die Liebe des Volkes und die Verehrung der Geistlichkeit zeigte sich recht sprechend bei seinem Lebensende” (N. Nekrolog der Deutschen, zit. nach DBA I 366, 280f.). Entält neben der “Elegio Funebre” einen Lebenslauf sowie die “Cenni sopra gli estremi onori” des Kardinals. Die schöne gestochene Tafel am Schluß zeigt den Sarg des Kardinals unter einem gewaltigen, von dem Architekten Chiappa entworfenen Totengerüst am Domplatz von Mailand bei der Aufbahrung mit reicher figürlicher Staffage. - Der Einband etwas angestaubt und ohne Rückenbezug, sonst tadelloses Exemplar auf starkem, fleckenfreiem Velinpapier. - Seltenes Festbuch, nicht im OCLC nachgewiesen.
