He made two trips to America, traveling extensively throughout the Mid-Atlantic states (especially around the cities of: Philadelphia; Baltimore; and New York). His journal contains of interesting anecdotes - including some about Blacks, Quakers, Indians, etc. Examples of this famous work were usually rebound, and are now rarely found in this original condition. First German edition; previously published in English as "The Story of My Life" and translated by the author. - From the library of the German diplomat Friedrich Werner von der Schulenburg (1875-1944), one of the conspirators against Hitler, with his handwritten ownership "Berlin 3. 12. 1935" on the title-page and date "Bln. Dezemb. 1935" on the flyleaf; his bookplate is on the front pastedown. For his involvement in the tragically failed plot of 20 July 1944, Schulenburg was executed on November 10. - A finely preserved copy.

Second, expanded and corrected edition of the artillery treatise by the Venetian engineer Moretti (d. 1675), first published in 1665. The plates show cannons and equipment for loading and maintenance, as well as calculations of cannonball trajectories. A pencil inscription on the flyleaf gives the title of the 1683 English translation, "A general treatise of artillery". - Spine a little rubbed. Paper slightly foxed in places; small tear to pp. 7f., not touching text.
