Jean Joseph Thonissen (1816-1891), Belgian jurist and statesman. Thonissen became one of the most authoritative representatives in Belgium of the classical school of penal law, upholding the traditional conception of crime and punishment. From 1863 he was a member of the Chamber of Representatives and was affiliated with the conservative Catholic party. He was also interested in political and economic theory. The present works, later published again as Le Socialisme depuis l'antiquité, jusqu'à la constitution française du 14 janvier 1852, was inspired by the events of 1848, and revealed his antipathy to the theories of the socialists. It purported to be a history of socialistic ideas and movements, pointing out fallacies in doctrine and concluding that attempts to realize a communistic system brought devastation and anarchy. To offset socialist influence Thonissen demanded a program of social amelioration to be realized by the promotion of thrift, cooperation and professional training (Fernand Collin in ESS, 14, p. 621). Published by the 'Société pour l'émancipation intellectuelle'. Bound in are the all the original coloured covers for each of the three parts.

Victor Considérant was a French political and economic theorist whose principal work was to clarify, popularize and apply specifically to the problems of his day the doctrine of Charles Fourier, whose best advocate he remains.Celebrated manifest of the "Ecole Sociétaire", a synthesis between doctrine and politics and intended to insert into fourierism a "politique positive." The work was of great importance and influenced the direction of the fourierists from then on.

This work provoked prosecution on the grounds of 'immorality' of the saint-simonian family and of Enfantin, Chevalier and Barrault personally. Oval stamp on title-page: Bibliotheque Saint-Simonienne and in the center of the oval "Pereire", on front paste-down a label: "P 85".

The society 'Aide-toi, le Ciel t'aidera' was formed to aid opposition candidates for election to the Chamber of Deputies in the period 1827-1834. It was directed by a central committee in Paris and operated through a network of local committees and agents throughout the country. After the Revolution of 1830, the original directors of the society (among whom Barrot, Guizot and de Rémusat) withdrew, and leadership passed to young republicans, including Godefroy Cavaignac, Etienne Garnier-Pagès, and Louis Blanc. Under their direction the society published pamphlets, distributed letters of political intelligence and advice to members.

Poetic Works by Joseph Bovshover, a very early imprint of his poems, published in London by the anarchist Yiddish publisher Frayheyt Group. Joseph Bovshover (1873-1915) was born in Lubavitch, near Mogilev, White Russia, in a very Orthodox family, but left for America at age 18, and became a furrier in New York. He had a good job but began to write anarchist, revolutionary poems in Yiddish and to read them aloud in his shop. He was fired and worked as a journalist and tutor. He was considered the heir of Edelshtat, who had just died. Bovshover knew English very well and translated his own poetry and published it in English language periodicals. As a result he achieved some fame in the non-Jewish world too, but soon after began to suffer from a mental illness, and entered a mental hospital in 1899, where he remained until his death. Verso of the printed cover contains the "Table des Matieres" and the rear cover (recto & verso) is taken by the "Extrait du catalogue de la Librairie Phalansterienne." Mathieu Briancourt, militant and propagandist of the ideas of Fourier, whose philosophy he expounded, explained and promoted in a number of publications, especially Fourier's ideas on the organisation of work. In this work, in the form of dialogues, Briancourt discusses Fourierist conceptions of work and the organisation of labour.

Au cours du congrès de Tours en 1920, il ne voulait s'engager ni au coté des communistes, ni au coté des modérés, il ralliera toutefois la tendance modérée de Léon Blum. Hubert-Rouger (1875/1958) fut un militant Guédiste de la première heure. Il était membre du P.O.F. de Jules Guesde. Il fut élu Maire de Nîmes en 1909, démissionna suite à son élection comme député en 1910 (il y restera jusqu'en 1919 puis de 1924 à 1940 et votera les pleins pouvoirs à Pétain). Il sera Maire de Nîmes de1925 à 1940. Il fut l'un des concepteurs de l'encyclopédie socialiste syndicale et coopérative de l'internationale ouvrière en compagnie notamment de Compère- Morel, Jean Longuet, Charles Rappoport entre autres. Il resta dans la mouvance Jaurès lors de la scission du congrès de Tours (1920)
