Published at the height of the Depression the portfolio limited to 133 numbered and signed sets is also Gellert's scarcest work seldom encountered in a complete state. The actor Nicholas Joy has inscribed & decorated this copy for Thomas Quinn Curtiss in Paris in 1960 with a wonderful self portrait on the title page. <br /> <br /> Joy opened Eugene O'Neill's "The Iceman Cometh" in NY in 1946 at the Martin Beck Theatre and the review by Brooks Atkinson states "Nicholas Joy is giving the best performance of his career as the unfrocked captain." Joy has drawn a self portrait of himself sitting dejectedly at Harry Hope's Bar & he makes reference to a Vuillard designed stage set for "Le Malade Imaginaire" in which he is one of the actors in the set. <br /> <br /> 8vo 210pp illustrated throughout with pastels paintings prints set designs.
