202253<p>Illustrated overview of the work of the San Francisco-based queer cultural activist network Boy With Arms Akimbo/Girl With Arms Akimbo. Akimbo's prosex posters stickers protest signs t-shirts and installations addressing issues of queer sexuality freedom of expression and HIV/AIDS appeared internationally in the streets at protests and in galleries in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The zine-style guide to research on the group consists of two parts:</p><ul><li>The final backgrounder produced by the Akimbo in 1992 with a discussion of the group's ideology politics and practice followed by a synopsis of its projects and a bibliography.<br /><br /></li><li>A 14-page addendum that describes the dissolution of the group and provides an extensive listing of books articles websites blog and social-media posts exhibitions and films and archival collections dealing with the group from 1992 to June 2021.</li></ul><p>Included with the publication is the exceptionally scarce first sticker by Boy With Arms Akimbo showing the logo and name on a yellow background with an orange stripe at left; 4.5 cm x 3.4 cm; printed using a photographic reproduction process; produced in an edition of approximately 200 in 1989. <br /><br />CONDITION: As new on original backing.</p> n.pub. paperback

EDITION LIMITED TO 200 NUMBERED COPIES (THIS COPY OUT-OF-SERIES). This copy was formerly in the library of Conwyn Mansel-Jones who won the Victoria Cross in South Africa on 27 February 1900. He went on to serve in WWI and was also awarded the DSO and the Legion d'Honneur. Mansel-Jones became CMG and was a member of the Hon. Corps of Gentlemen-at-Arms from 1920 until his death in 1942. A letter confirming his purchase of this copy is loosely inserted. A SPLENDID ASSOCIATION COPY OF A SCARCE AND IMPORTANT UNIT HISTORY. White, p.255.
