Paper portfolio with cover photograph of Lenin measuring approx. 17.5 x 22" containing 31 pictures of various sizes on 18 sheets depicting all aspects of Lenin's life as student father one of the people and founder of the republic. Images presumably "suitable for framing" to be used in offices public buildings schools etc both as government issued "art" and history lessons. Some wear to paper portfolio along edges; sheets fine. unknown
In 8° (20×12 cm); IV, 95, (1) pp. Legatura coeva in piena pelle marmorizzata con titolo e ricchi fregi in oro al dorso (qualche strofinatura). Antico timbretto di proprietà privata al frontespizio. Stampato su carta di ottima qualità. All'interno esemplare in ottime condizioni di conservazione. Prima edizione in questa versione che raccoglie varie lettere non presenti nelle edizioni precedenti, di questa interessante raccolta di corrispondenza dell'armata napoleonica in Egitto. Di quest'opera uscirono varie edizione in breve tempo stampate in Inghilterra, con titolo difforme e con raccolta di lettere differenti. All'epoca dell'occupazione francese dell'Egitto, dopo la vittoria di Nelson ad Aboukir, la superiorità marittima inglese nel Mediterraneo permise di intercettare la maggior parte delle navi spedite in Francia dall'esercito di Bonaparte. In questo mondo gli inglesi entrarono in possesso di una grande quantità della corrispondenza che i soldati francesi spedivano verso il continente. In essa era raccontata la vita dei soldati, i territori visitati e le battaglie intraprese me più di qualsiasi altra cosa, la Cancelleria britannica era interessata alla descrizione che i soldati facevano delle loro reali situazioni di vita. Gli inglesi non esitarono a pubblicare parte di queste lettere, al fine di dimostrare le sofferenze che doveva sopportare e lo stato spesso miserabile in cui si trovava il soldato francese. "In generale," dice La Jonquiere dopo aver esaminato la questione, "possiamo ammettere l'autenticità delle lettere così pubblicate. " Le edizioni inglesi, non riportano il nome di nessun autore, commentatore o raccoglitore ma la prima edizione francese portava un'introduzione del noto medico e bibliotecario francese, Édouard-Thomas Simon (Troyes 16 ottobre 1740 - 4 aprile 1818 Besançon). Simon lavorò a Troyes come medico per più di vent'anni prima di arrivare a Parigi nel 1786. All'inizio della Rivoluzione la sua fama era notevole tanto da venir, da subito, nominato membro del Consiglio d'igiene della capitale francese. Divise la sua vita tra gli studi medici e quelli letterari. Oltre alle lettere dei soldati comuni, il volume contiene varia corrispondenza, dispacci e rapporti di diversi alti personaggi dell'esercito francesi quali lo stesso Bonaparte ma anche Menou, Kleber, i Generale Berthier, Desaix, Lagrange, etc. Questa edizione è la più estesa fra le varie che uscirono nel 1800 (si conosce ad esempio un'edizione con 48 pagine) e dovrebbe rappresentare la terza edizione anche se gli aggiornamenti ne fanno un'opera a se stante. Ogni edizione contiene un numero diverso di lettere. Esemplare in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione. Non comune.

It continued its existence throughout the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries: Bodoni received his early training here. In 1789 most of the types were taken to Paris where in 1805 an edition of the Lord's Prayer in 150 languages was printed as a compliment at the time of Napoleon's coronation.
