Lawyer and judge Garrick Mallery 1784-1866 served in the Pennsylvania legislature from 1827 to 1830 and was chairman of the Committee of Ways and Means when the Bank of Pennsylvania was rechartered in 1830. He was the father of Garrick Mallery 1831-1894 an ethnologist who specialized in Native American sign language. This publication relating to the demise of the Bank of Pennsylvania during the financial panic of 1857-1858 is very scarce. Leather label in second compartment with gilt-tooled title: Purdon's Digest 1830. Formerly there was a second label in the fourth compartment. Blind-rolled chain border on each board. Former owner's name on title page and endpapers: J. Miles. Contains the Constitution of the United States the Constitution of Pennsylvania and the laws of Pennsylvania arranged by topic. In Very Good Condition: lacking one original spine label; leather is rubbed with several small scrapes; leather over spine is starting to crack; light foxing; pages are somewhat browned but clean and tight. Very Good. 5 printed documents published by the Manufacturers' Association of Delaware County Pennsylvania in 1875 1876 and 1877. #1: 20 x 13 cm. Announcement of a meeting of the Manufacturers of Delaware County to be held on Nov. 20 1875 "to obtain relief from the burdensome and unequal taxation suffered" by those manufacturers. By order of Samuel Riddle president of the group. Pencil notations on the back headed "Riddle mill burned." #2-3: 26 x 21 cm. Printed notice dated Nov. 29 1875 from a committee of Manufacturers of Delaware County urging individual manufacturers to explain to their county assessor "the great depreciation in the value of machinery since the last triennial assessment." The committee are Amos Gartside James Stephens and Abram Blakeley. Includes a list of assessors of Delaware County for 1876. There are 2 copies of this one with an ink note reading: "Jno. R. Rhodes." #4: 21 x 13 cm. Printed letter dated May 6 1876 from William Ward "Acting for Committee of Delaware County Manufacturers." Ward who represented Pennsylvania in Congress from 1877 to 1883 requests the recipient to have the "enclosed memorial" signed by all employees "both male and female" to be used during the debate on the Morrison Free Trade Bill. #5: 21 x 25 cm. Printed letter dated Jan. 29 1877 from Amos Gartside and James Stephens on behalf of the Committee of Delaware County Manufacturers. To manufacturers urging them to talk to the county assessors in their districts about the burden put on Delaware County manufacturers by the "unfair and unequal valuation and taxation of machinery." Very scarce. In Very Good Condition: all are lightly creased; closed 2-cm. tear from edgeof #1; several closed tears of less than 1 cm. from edges; minor loss near upper edge of #1; slight discoloration on #5. 18922250027San Francisco CA: Daily Journal Print 1892. 1st Edition . Soft cover. Good-. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. See photos for condition details: two softcovers both regarding the matters in the estate of Agustin Olvera a Californio-American judge ranchero and politician. Both books are the original publications with fragile exteriors. The 1891 petition 24 pages shows staining on the exterior and there is a smear on page 6/7 with light foxing present throughout. The rear cover also shows remnants of a section of paper that was attached at one time. Page 12 has a small piece of paper pasted at the bottom. The 1893 Respondent's Points 24 pages also shows staining on the exterior which is also present on the last two interior pages. This copy has some minor scattered handwriting and lines marking paragraphs most of which are in pencil. Both copies show chipping along the edges and spine and both copies also have the rear cover splitting at the top and bottom. Pages are toned and show various degrees of handling wear although the binding has the feel of books that were not used much. The 1893 book grades on the lower end of good-due to the exterior visual condition the 1895 copy is in slightly better condition physically but the stains also lowers it to G-. more towards the grade of fair. Both copies are very scarce in their original state and printing the sale is for both books at one price. Each book contains approximately 24 pages for total of 48 pages for both books. <br/> <br/> Daily Journal Print paperback

Though all printed matter is absolutely complete the missing endpapers are no small defect hence the price is substantially reduced. The map depicts township divisions rivers including the Mississippi and Missouri lakes and the names of several important towns including St. Louis Jefferson Fayette Lexington and Palmyra.
