This is a much expanded annotated and indexed treatment of the original 1847 publication. During this period Fitzgerald also offered himself for the Democratic nomination for the U. S. Senate. Moderate wear to the binding which has some stains spots on the front and rear wrappers. The binding is quite sound and sturdy. The text is clean. A nice copy in the original wrappers. There is a pencil signature at the top of the front cover ofe "I. A. Jarrett." We believe that this is Isaac Augustus Jarrett of Huntsville and Fayetteville North Carolina. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1861. In the Civil War he served as Captain of Company C 26th North Carolina Infantry Regiment. The pamphlet is housed in a removable plastic sleeve with a board backing. William Hooper 1792-1876 was a teacher and pastor from Hillsborough N.C. His father William Hooper Sr. was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. The younger Hooper entered the University of North Carolina's prep school in 1804 and he received his B.A. in 1809 and his M.A. in 1812. He went on to study at Princeton. He had started tutoring at UNC in 1810 and he continued to teach in various capacities until 1837. In this pamphlet Hooper relates many memories of his early days in Chapel Hill and this was one of the sources liberally used by Kemp Plummer Battle in his history of the University. Written below in another hand is an order for William Huff to "appear before the Judges of our Court of Common pleas at Brookville on the first Day of their term in this present Month of August." to enter a plea to vacate the bond. Signed by William Huff and Patrick McCarty Attested by David Richardson. 12.75" x 7.5". Original folds. Franklin County Indiana Territory was formed in 1811 with Brookville as the county seat. Early settlers Primitive Baptists had built a log church there in 1805. Patrick McCarty "apparently came to Indiana in 1806 when he had a land entry in Franklin Co IN. He was in the 1807 census in Dearborn Co IN. He was received as a member of Little Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Franklin Co IN and was foreman of a jury in Franklin Co IN in June 1811." Findagrave.com Sheriff Robert Hanna 1786-1858 " is best known as one of the forty-three delegates to the 1816 Indiana Constitutional Convention and Indiana's third U.S. Senator after it achieved statehood in 1816. A native of Laurens District South Carolina he settled in the Indiana Territory shortly after it was established in 1800 and began his long career as a public servant in Brookville Indiana. The first printing of this memoir was limited to only 100 copies and titled MEMOIRS OF MRS. ANNE J. LYMAN in 1876. This edition was re-titled RECOLLECTIONS OF MY MOTHER: it omits some letters from the first edition but includes anecdotes and letters new to this edition. These are extensive New England memoirs concentrated on Northampton Mass. The Illustrations include an actual mounted photograph of a painted portrait of Judge Lyman.
