"At first there were 3 issues a year of On the Tracks that were sent in February June and September; then a 4th issue was sent in November called 'Collector's Issue': it was actually just a catalogue of what was available for sale through Rolling Tomes . Though there is a gap in the numeration between Vol 10 #2 and Vol 11 #3 this is a complete set and the 'missing issues' do not seem to exist . This fanzine looked more like a music magazine. Illustrated by never-before published photographs it was professionally produced by Mick and Laurie McCuiston from their home in Grand Junction Colorado. Their address was well known by Dylan collectors in the 90's as they also ran Rolling Tomes the goldmine where you could easily order any official Dylan stuff: magazines dylanzines books -out of print and new- sheet music songbooks tour programmes posters but also T-shirts buttons cassettes records and videos . Simpson's talk concerns an expedition into Navajo country made in 1849 by Col. Jno. M. Washington to coerce the Navajos into compliance with a treaty made with the United States. Simpson accompanied the expedition and makes many observations on the land and people. Other articles include G. H. Pond on Indian mounds T. M. Fullerton on the St. Louis River Edward D. Neill on the history of early trade in the state the battle of Lake Pokeguma sic as narrated by an "eye-witness." Of particular note are the extracts of the daily journal of W. T. Foxing throughout.<br /> <br /> A scarce catalog titled "Livret de la Galerie Impériale de l'Ermitage de Saint-Pétersbourg contenant l'explication des tableaux qui la composent avec de courtes notices sur les autres objets d'art ou de curiosité qui y sont exposés" spans an impressive 531 pages. It predominantly features a thorough room-by-room walkthrough of the galleries complete with comprehensive descriptions of each painting. The catalog opens with a concise historical overview and includes an index emphasizing its academic rigor. Noteworthy is a large folding map and a chart on the final pages that presents a breakdown of the number of artists and paintings sorted by their national school and detailing the acquisitions made by each of the four monarchs Catherine the Great Paul I Alexander I and Nicholas I who augmented the collection. This chart reveals that out of the 1692 paintings in the Hermitage as of 1838 a significant portion 1385 was acquired by Catherine the Great. The only issue found on the interior is on the rear pastedown which shows very small fraying to the outside edge of the paper. Very good. 916 pp indexed with 6 folding maps double-page frontispiece with photographic portraits of the city commissioners. Bound in full black leather with all edges gilt stamped Jas. F. Chapman on front board. Chapman was a San Francisco merchant engaged in the shipping trade. Leather scuffed and chipped at spine ends; internals sound and clean. Maps in very good condition. This volume includes interesting detail on all aspects of civil life in San Francisco including reports from the Board of Health Coroner Fire Department Harbor Master Industrial School Park Commissioners Sheriff and Superintendent of Public Streets. But it is of particular importance for the extensive Appendix on the city's water supply which runs to about 110 pages and includes all six maps. The section opens with a statement on "the importance of securing an abundant supply of pure fresh water for the use of the inhabitants of this city and county" notes that although options had previously been explored but no action was ever taken and asserts that "the city should acquire and own water-works and such supplies of water as would meet the present and future wants for the next fifty years not alone for all classes of our population but for cleansing our sewers watering streets and for fire extinguishing purposes." This is followed by the text of the 1874 "Act to Authorize the City and County of San Francisco to Provide and Maintain Public Water Works.and to Condemn and Purchase Private Property for that Purpose. The maps made from surveys conducted under the provisions of that act are: General Map of the Surveys for the San Francisco Water Supply; City Water Supply Map of Blue Lakes Reservoirs; City Water Supply Map of Clear Lake; City Water Supply of Laguna de la Merced; City Water Supply Map of Calaveras Reservoir; and City Water Supply Map of Spring Valley Reservoir. The bottom edge of the broadside concludes with the rules pertaining to fresh water fish should not be "taken in any other manner except with single hand lines with not over 2 hooks upon each".
