Extremely rare. was an eminent Ottoman Turkish poet. He mastered Arabic, Persian, and French languages and worked as a civil servant during the reign of Sultan Abdulhamid II. He contributed to the literary magazine Servet-i-Fünun ("the Wealth of Knowledge") until it was censored by the Ottoman government in 1901. Süleyman Nazif was born in 1870 in Diyarbakir to Sait Pasha, a poet and historian. He was the brother of renowned Turkish poet and politician Faik Ali Ozansoy. He started his education in his very early years in Maras. Later, he was schooled in Diyarbakir. In 1879, he joined his father again in Maras, took private lessons from his father and in French language from an Armenian priest. Following the death of his father in 1892, Süleyman Nazif worked at several posts in the Governorate of Diyarbakir. In 1896, he was promoted and worked a while in Mosul. After moving to Constantinople, he started to write articles against Sultan Abdul Hamid II sympathizing with the ideas and aims of the Young Ottomans. He fled to Paris, France, where he stayed eight months continuing to write opposing articles in the newspapers. When he returned home, he was forced to work at a secretary post in the Governorate of Bursa between 1897 and 1908. In 1908, Süleyman Nazif moved to Constantinople again, joined the Committee of Union and Progress and started journalism. He co-founded also a newspaper, Tasvir-i Efkar, together with the renowned journalist Ebüzziya Tevfik. Although this newspaper had to close soon, his articles made him a well-known writer. After Sultan Abdülhamid II restored the constitutional monarchy following the 1908 Young Turk Revolution, Süleyman Nazif served as governor of Ottoman provinces Basra (1909), Kastamonu (1910), Trabzon (1911), Mosul (1913) and Baghdad (1914). However, since he was not very successful in administrative posts, he decided in 1915 to leave public service and return to his initial profession as a writer. This is fourth book of Nazif.
Fine German Paperback. Demy 8vo. (22 x 15 cm). In German. 516 p., ills. "Die politischen Gedanken und Erinnerungen Sultan Abdül Hamids 2. aus dem Französischen übersetzt und kommentiert von Thomas Weiberg. Sultan Abdül Hamid II. und Kaiser Wilhelm II. - eine deutsch-osmanische Freundschaft "Aber wer im Okzident kennt unsere Geschichte? Wer unterzieht sich der Mühe, sie kennenzulernen?". So fragte Sultan Abdül Hamid II.

Very Good French Paperback. Folio. (34 x 25 cm). In French. 15 p. 7 p. Stains on pages and cover. [SHEET MUSIC] Ire Valse pour piano Op. 83 par. Marie-Auguste Massacrié-Durand was a French music publisher, organist, and composer. Durand was born in Paris and studied at the Paris Conservatoire with François Benoist. He started as an organist in 1849 in Saint-Ambroise, then at St. Genevieve, St. Roch and St. Vincent de Paul (1862-74). Together with Louis Schoenewerk and other sponsors, Durand founded the company Durand-Schoenewerk & Cie. in December 1869 and acquired the important catalogue of the Paris music publisher Gustave Flaxland (1821-1895), which had grown from approximately 1,200 titles in 1847 to 1,400 titles in 1869. This included the French rights to the early Wagner operas. Following a dispute, the company dissolved on 18 March 1885 and was sold at auction in May 1896. Auguste Durand and Louis Schoenewerk bought the firm in its entirety, and they reconstituted the company with Durand's son Jacques (1865-1928). In November 1891, Jacques replaced Schoenewerk and the name changed to A. Durand & fils. Jacques assumed control of the company in 1909 when his father died, and brought in his cousin Gaston Choisnel (d. 1921) as a partner. Durand became an expert in the publication of works by French composers including Victorin de Joncières, Edouard Lalo, Jules Massenet, Claude Debussy, Camille Saint-Saëns, Maurice Ravel, Albert Roussel and Paul Dukas. The company also published the French editions of Tannhäuser, The Flying Dutchman and Lohengrin by Richard Wagner and many editions of old masters including, in particular, a complete critical edition of Rameau edited under the initial direction of Saint-Saëns. Between 1910 and 1913, Auguste and, after his death, his son Jacques organised concerts to raise awareness of new music. In 1914, Jacques published under the title Édition classique Durand & fils important nineteenth-century works for piano including the music of Chopin edited by Debussy, of Mendelssohn by Ravel and of Schumann by Gabriel Fauré. Koç Collection.= Osmanli Baskentinde fotografçi ve hakkak. Ömer M. Koç Koleksiyonu. Robertson, one of the most notable names of nineteenth-century photography, received his vocational training in the London Royal Mint and remained the chief engraver of the Ottoman Imperial Mint for forty years, serving four successive sultans including Sultan Abdülmecid and Sultan Abdülaziz. He prepared designs, molds and models for gold and silver coins and in the 1850s also started to develop an interest in photography. James Robertson is the first photographer working in Istanbul known to have taken the first 360° panoramic photographs of the city. He gained much renown with his Istanbul photographs, as well as with the photo series he produced of Athens in 1854, of the Crimean War between 1854 and 1855, and of Jerusalem and Cairo, which he prepared in 1857 and which were displayed in exhibitions in London and Paris. 'Robertson, Photographer and Engraver in the Ottoman Capital' features not only his outstanding works for the Imperial Mint, but also reveals his mastery and manifold talents as an artist capable of creating stunning photographs and watercolor paintings of his adopted city's colorful life, of its unique scenery, and its matchless monuments and art objects. The exhibition also includes numerous photos from Athens, the Crimea, Jerusalem and Cairo. An accompanying exhibition catalogue, prepared by Bahattin Öztuncay and designed by Yesim Demir, presents Robertson's biography alongside his works.

Levni's pictorial narrative of the Surname-i Vehbi, poet Vehbi's account of the festival organized in 1720 to commemorate the circumcision of four sons of Sultan Ahmed III, is undoubtedly one of the masterpieces of Ottoman art and possibly the last great example of illustrated Islamic manuscript. Preserved in the Topkapi Palace Museum in Istanbul, the work is illustrated with 137 paintings that re-create the personages, settings, and events of an extraordinarily lively and enchanting age known as the Tulip Period.
