The Okonite Co. founded in 1878 was one of the original insulators of electrical wire and cable in the United States. Early customers included Samuel F.B. Morse for his telegraph network and Thomas A. Edison for the Pearl Street Generating Station the nation's first built in New York City in 1882. This publication honored Hazard-Okonite who were serving in World War Two. It includes various messages from fellow employees of the firm and lists all those who were serving in May 1944 with their contact information. Writing on the front including the name and address of Dom Servillo the secretary-treasurer of the Service Committee that produced the booklet. A very scarce World War Two item. Crisp was a U.S. Representative in the Fifty-fourth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of his father from December 1896 to March of 1895. He then went on to practicing law in Americus Georgia and returned to the House of Representives in the Sixty-second Congress as Parliamentarian of the Democratic National Convention in 1912. He was elected to Congress ten times from March 1913 to October 1932. This two page tract is in excellent condition with a couple of spots of foxing on front a couple of spots on the back a cryptic "876" printed at the bottom of the back cover and a wrinkle across the top of tract. After the California Gold Rush of 1849 the state's name became a powerful marketing tool in 19th century America evoking images of prosperity adventure and abundance.
