Hays to his son Billie Will Jr. with full page SIGNED INSCRIPTION front endpage dated 2/7/26 - "Dear Billie There is not much in this book you need to read now. Later on maybe. Its like life itself- there is much very wholesome and some to be taken in moderation and only at certain times. However I want you to read pages 187 to 206 especially about Aunt Sallie on page 189. Show it to her too and if she would like one of the books I'll get you one to give her. She is a great individual. Affectionately W.H.H.". Pages 187- 206 contain the chapter written by Will H. Hays and is titled "I Learned a Lot from the Folks Back Home". He was wrong about the citation it begins on page 199. Will Hays managed Warren G. Hardings successful campaign for the Presidency of the U.S. and was subsequently appointed Postmaster General. After a year in that position he resigned to become most famously known as the first President of Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America MPPDA which under his guidance published a blacklist of actors and workers studios should not hire inserted moral clauses into actors' contracts and published an informal list of suggested guidelines for film producers. When the Catholic Church formed its Legion of Decency and threatened nationwide boycotts of movies Hays installed a more formal production code called the Hays Code later simply "The Code" which became the virtual law of Hollywood until the 1960s. A line for the signature of the governor is not signed but that of Hall as Secretary of State is. Docketed on the verso in pencil: "J. A. Milliken / Commissioner / 1862." James Augustus Milliken was born Oct. 1 1816 and died in 1899. As a commissioner he was charged with reporting to the Maine State Legislature on the condition of the said tribes and their claims upon the state by reason of treaties made with them and advising on their population their fund in the state treasury annuities in clothing provisions and money guaranteed to them by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts when they surrendered their lands to the Commonwealth and whose treaty obligations to them Maine had assumed. <br/><br/> March 21 hardcover books
