He first came to Vice President Nixon's attention on a trip to Caracas Venezuela when a mob attacked the Vice-Presidential motorcade. Taylor along with other agents protected the vice-presidential party and de-escalated the situation without harming any protesters. As special agent in charge of White House security he often clashed with Nixon aides who wanted more public access for the president. Fellow secret service agents described Taylor as: ".the public's image of a Secret Service agent. Everyone on the White House detail respected him but he had a lightning temper and wasn't one to ingratiate himself with anyone including the President the White House staff and the Secret Service hierarchy." After a dispute with Chief of Staff H.R. Haldeman Taylor was transferred and soon after retired from the Secret Service. He passed away in 1981 from cancer at the age of 54. Warner Books unknown

1983152046New York: Privately Printed for Richard Nixon 1983. The privately printed limited first edition of Nixon's fifth book. Octavo original publisher's cloth with gilt titles to the spine. One of 1000 copies. Presentation copy inscribed by the author on the title page "To Sherry Griner with appreciation for her loyal support over the years - from Richard Nixon 12-30-87." Fine in a very good dust jacket. In this terse closely argued book about geopolitical strategy Richard Nixon asserts that while the tools of modern warfare have made war a practical impossibility our differences with the Soviet Union remain profound irreconcilable and potentially deadly. How can we navigate between the impossible and the irreconcilable and establish a real lasting peace is the sum and substance of the former President's message. First the author debunks what he calls the myths of peace chimeras such as disarmament peace-through-trade personal friendships between leaders and world government schemes. President Nixon says that such policies-pursued by themselves-have never averted war and that we court disaster by pretending that they will now. Then he describes the key that can unlock the door to peace: "hard-headed détente" a pragmatic mixture of détente and deterrence that encompasses the full range of political and economic relations between east and West. He shows how we can use summitry economic power and other means to deter Soviet misbehavior and at the same time reduce the chances of world war. Privately Printed for Richard Nixon hardcover

1857173408London: Bell & Daldy 1857. First edition. This is Nixon's account of his cruise through the Bass Strait during which he stayed with Aboriginal communities and examined how they lived from their haircuts to "the native potato so called by the colonists though never tasted by them and having not the most remote relation to the plant of that name except in a little resemblance of the tubers in shape and appearance to the kidney potato" p. 27. Francis Russell Nixon 1803-1879 was the first Bishop of Tasmania who embarked on his 1854 expedition to help the recently immigrated families who had little access to the church due to the remoteness of the area. During his two-month trip he established a chapel in Launceston which developed into a thriving congregation by his departure. Nixon served as bishop during a confusing period as for close to a decade of his tenure the island was still receiving thousands of convicts annually. He did not enjoy his posting with his superiors having a poor opinion of his work and so he relished personal endeavours more than his ministerial role being an "accomplished musician and artist" ODNB.
