17193425London: J Roberts 1719. No Binding. Very Good. 4 pp 5-32 An early printing of Nixon's Cheshire Prophecy from 1719 disbound from a collection of pamphlets. The prophecy itself is printed in black letter with the apparatus in roman including a printer's preface which explains the great success of the prophecy and concludes with a 1715 letter from Nantwich. Browning and discolouration to the first couple of leaves and the last leaf. Nixon's prophecy was transformed from a local to a national myth as it was judged to have appeared to foretell the events of 1688 and the Glorious Revolution. The publisher James Roberts succeeded to the printing business of his mother in law Abigail Baldwin who had first printed the prophecy six years earlier in 1713 and this and all early editions of the prophecy are scarce: ESTC locates 7 copies only not in BL CUL Bodleian Yale Folger. 199325021Amsterdam: Rodopi. Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket. 1993. First Edition. Hardcover. Included is a letter to the previous owner asking him to review and critique the present edition in preparation for the next edition. I down graded the books from "fine" due to all the owner's notes which I left in the books. I had started to remove them before understanding what they were for. As far as I can tell the owner did not make a single mark in the books but put all of his notes on sticky notes some very very very small. They can certainly be removed but are a very interesting part of the history of the books. A pretty amazine work. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 503552 pages . Rodopi hardcover
