Loy also had an uncredited cameo in their 14th and last film together The Senator Was Indiscreet which starred Powell. Their frequent pairing - always playing a couple - and on-screen chemistry especially in their six popular Thin Man films where they played husband and wife Nick and Nora Charles led many fans to believe they were married in real life. However they were only good friends. In a 1988 interview she explained "I think we were too much alike for a romance." Powell was already a well-established leading man in Hollywood prior to their teaming dating back to the silent era but it was the great success of The Thin Man that made Loy a star. She almost did not get the role. Louis B. Mayer had already cast her in Stamboul Quest and only agreed to let her play Nora Charles if the picture could be shot in three weeks. Director W. S. Brocard Sewell's copy with his name on endpaper and infrequent marginalia in text. Sewell donated this book to the Mt. Carmel College in Niagara Falls Ontario where he was among the Carmelite brothers. The book bears the college's library pocket on the rear endpaper as well as a couple of their small rubber stamps; else in very good condition with a near fine dust jacket. Haines was discovered by a talent scout and signed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer MGM in 1922. His career gained momentum when he was lent to Columbia Pictures where he received favorable reviews for his role in The Midnight Express. Haines returned to MGM and was cast in the 1926 film Brown of Harvard. The role solidified his screen persona as a wisecracking arrogant leading man. By the end of the 1920s Haines had appeared in a string of successful films and was a popular box-office draw.Dorothy Jordan August 9 1906 – December 7 1988 was an American movie actress who had a short but successful career beginning in talking pictures in 1929. 49886Great Waldingfield Sudbury Suffolk: Reverend Francis Cresswell 22nd December 1841 Probate. 22" x 27". 2 vellum sheets written on one side. Two vertical folds and three horizontal folds. Plus the probate certificate is attached including the paper/wax seal. Family history records show Francis Cresswell was born in 1762. He married Jane Okes on October 12 1807 in Cambridge Cambridgeshire England. He died on November 17 1841 in Suffolk England having lived a long life of 79 years and was buried in Great Waldingfield Suffolk. "1807 - Francis Cresswell S.T.B. Clare College Cambridge; B.A. 1785; M.A. 1788; B.D. 1796; Fellow and Tutor; was instituted March 24 1807 enjoying the benefice thirty-five years.He died Nov. 17. and was burried here November 24 1841 aged 78 years. There is a tablet in the church. In the churchyard West of the church is a stone with the initials: "F.C." 1841 J.C. 1870. The Parish register gives Francis Cresswell buried 24 Nov. 1841 aged 78. Jane Cresswell of Melford late of Great Waldingfield buried Feb 5 1870 aged 91." - See Rectors of Great Waldingfield By Rev. Francis Haslewood .
