Edizione originale.

Prager, 1889. Numerous tables and figures in the text. (2), viii, 277, (1, errata), (2, Vieweg und Sohn catalogue) pp. 8vo. Later half cloth, marbled boards, corners, gilt lettering to spine. Einaudi 2657; Mattioli 1479. Second issue of the very rare first edition, first published at Gossen's own expense by Vieweg in Brunswick (1854). Very few copies were sold and the book remained unnoticed for years. Shortly before his death, Gossen withdrew it from circulation and the unsold copies were returned to him. After the author had become famous, Vieweg's successor, Prager, bought this stock from Hermann Kortum (Gossen's nephew and professor of mathematics) and brought the work back on the market in 1889 with a new title page and as a 'new' edition. The importance of Gossen was brought to light by Jevons and Walras. In the second edition of The Theory of Political Economy Jevons included a generous acknowledgement of Gossen's priority 'as regards the general principles and method of the theory of Political Economy.''Gossen, though perhaps not quite a genius, had a brilliant, original and precise mind. With his one book, he moved constrained optimization into the centre of the theory of value and allocation, where it has since remained. With respect to economic content, his was probably the greatest single contribution to this theory in the 19th century' (New Palgrave, ii, p. 550-554).Inner margin of paste-downs and free first blanks reinforced with white cloth tape, two discrete stamps on verso of the title-page "Universitätsbibliothek Konstanz", two passages in the book with side marking.
Un volume (24 cm) di VIII-598-/4) pagine. In lingua russa. Legatura coeva in mezza percallina e tela nera. “Ziber (1844-1888) was an outstanding Russian economist, one of the first publishing the economic doctrine of Marx in Russia. In 1871 as professor of political economy of the University of Kiev, he investigated the basic proposals of Marxian theory of value and capital, considering them as a later and necessary development of the doctrine of Smith and Ricardo. In 1885, this work, elaborated, returned to be published under the title of "Ricardo and Marx”, enhancing Marx's reputation in Russia and helping spread Marxian revolutionary ideas”.
In 8, cm 18 x 24,5, pp. 386 + (2 b.)

Publisher's original white paper wraps with yapp edges titled in black to front wrap. 3; 60pp.; 24 bibliography to rear. Light wear and creasing to the yapp edges a little scuffing to the spine ends and some isolated minor soiling; internally clean and fresh. A Very Good clean copy indeed.

A keystone piece of economic theory and a major influence upon the evolution of Free Market theory following on from Hayek's seminal "Profits Interest and Investment" 1939. In essence the "The Political Ideal of the Rule of Law" is an intellectually passionate defense of legal predictability equality before the law and limited government power as it relates to markets and commerce. Hayek's lectures portray these principles not only as essential for political liberty but also as the foundation of any healthy economic system. Extremely scarce in commerce with adequate holdings in institutions likely due to the publication's and Hayek's association with the University of Chicago. N.B.E. Printing unknown
1935426j0787Oxford: The Alden Press. Good in Fair dust jacket. 1935. First Edition. Hardcover. "The nom-de-plume 'A Fellow Pilgrim' masks the identity of Arthur Kitson one to whose credit stands the authorship of a whole series of authoritative works on economic and financial subjects. He here indulges his fancy by speculating how John Bunyan might have portrayed his hero Christian and his friends and what their encounters would have been had their pilgrimages been conducted during recent Great Depression-era years. Herein is much food for thought and perhaps a moral for the present troubled times." - dust jacket. "Kitson 1859-1937 invented the vaporised oil burner and held many patents. He became convinced Jewish bankers were the cause of his bankruptcy and most of the world's miseries. He formed the Economic Freedom League with Frederick Soddy and was active in this venture through the 1920s. He sent Ezra Pound a copy of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion even before Pound changed from a money radical to a notorious anti-semite. By the time of his death in 1937 Kitson was the second most influential fascist in Britain the first being Oswald Mosely. In his late years he was brought to Germany to consult with Nazi party economists." - Wikipedia. He founded the scientific field of social energetics which was later expanded on by Frederick Soddy in his book 'The Role of Money.'
