Pristine folding memorandum and calendar in beautifully illustrated 3-panel wrapper printed in dark blue with highly ornate type fonts and decorative elements at the center panel. The right hand panel with 2 circular engraved vignettes depicting the Strowbridge Sower compared with sewing seed by hand "the old way the hardest work on the farm". On the interior the two side panels with additional engraved vignettes including a bird's eye view of the factory in Racine and a calendar with each month printed at the left hand page and text pertaining to the Strowbridge Sower at the right hand page. Text includes testimonials diagrams or cuts of the working parts of the sower salaries of US officers useful construction information and US population by state or territory. Saddle-stapled as issued; rusted staples no longer present resulting in minor stains and trifling loss; some marks and light stains throughout but generally inoffensive; a decent copy. The recto of each leaf is ink-stamped 'J. Mullins. Manufacturer & Importer of Bicycles 84 Pirie St Adelaide. Branch at Commercial Road Port Adelaide'. Retail prices for all but the tandem models are added in ink: they range from just over £20 to £32. To put these figures into perspective on Saturday 19 February 1898 'The Advertiser' classifieds offered for sale a four-room cottage 'with paved yard shed &c.' in Adelaide itself for £200 and a house with 'five rooms verandahs &c.' in inner-suburban Stepney for £300. An early printing of this work dated 1899 from the same copy held at the National Trust Libraries on Jisc. With a publisher's slip bound in with the volume stating 'This edition of the International Code of Signals will come into use on 1st January 1901 .' A revised edition of the of the original 1857 International Signal Book which at the time failed to meet the requirements of the Mercantile Marine. This volume comprises a more updated copy of the international system of signals and codes for use by vessels to communicate important messages concerning the safety of navigation and related matters. Structured in two parts: Part I with instructions on how to signal including how to make alphabetical spelling signals and numeral signals and Part II on distant signals including the fixed semaphore for coast use. Illustrated with twelve full page coloured plates of flags as well as numerous other illustrations in text. With numerous leaves of advertisements. In the original publisher's quarter morocco binding over cloth covered boards. Externally rather worn with some shelf wear and chipping to the extremities of the boards rubbing to the spine and boards with some minor losses to the cloth of the boards and a touch of edge wear. General light soiling to the boards and spine. Internally firmly bound. The pages are clean with a touch of age toning to the protruding title indexes as usual and to the first and last few leaves. A very scarce and beautifully bound volume of thanks from the London Chamber of Commerce to their treasurer George Sandeman signed by the president of the society and chairman of the council. A really rare item in the London Chamber of Commerce's striking full morocco binding with watered silk endpapers and gilt dentelles.This is a commemorative volume produced by the Chamber to formally record and present an expression of gratitude to Albert G Sandeman for his work as Treasurer to the Chamber.Elegantly bound and signed by the president Albert Pollet chairman of the council W. H. Williams and secretary Kennie B. Murray it reflects the Chamber"s civic and mercantile culture in late Victorian London where ceremonial resolutions addresses and votes of thanks were preserved as tokens of esteem. In the publisher's original full morocco binding. Light rubbing to back strip otherwise externally excellent. Watered silk endpapers and gilt dentelles. Internally text block somewhat tenderly held. This is a report on the 1862 Great Exhibition in London by delegates/ authors as named of the Saint Etienne Chamber of Commerce where the 'Manufacture Imperielle' was based. I have identified one 2014 reprint of an 1877 84 pp. edition ascribed to a Eugene Ory as author but this name does not appear here unsurprisingly since his birth-date is given as 1845 nor is there mention of the unfolding chart. Clearly extremely scarce. The printed paper wrapperstwo brads split to upper spine tell us that Albert Grosfeld's main showroom was on Third Avenuce in New York City but he also had showrooms in Chicago and Los Angele. Is is accompanied by 100 placards showing the furniture on offer. Each card measures 7 5/8 by 9 1/2 inches and bears a photographic illustration of the piece along with a printed description stock number and dimensions As follows: 1111/20150 Adam Satinwood Writing Desk hand-decorated leather top. MADE IN ENGLAND. H. 38". W. 42". D. 23". Very good condition.The company seems to have specilaized in high end reproductions of antique furniture. A small trade catalogue promoting barrel trucks wheeled racks which hold barrels and allow them to be moved around a warehouse or shop. Illustrated with two full-page images interior scenes of a “wholesale liquor store†and of a “retail grocery†each showing the barrel trucks in use. The broadside folded inside is a list of first-year purchasers of the “1665 Barrel Truck†and is torn at the edges. The handbill itself is fine clean and bright. Unrecorded. The cost of raising money has weighed down the energies of many enterprising men. Usury Law restrictions have afforded no alleviation in the hour of need.
