187476466Worcester: The West & Lee Game and Printing Co. 1874. First edition. Small octavo. 31 1 pp. plus five foldout engravings of people playing the games numerous textual illustrations of required equipment. Publisher's printed light sage wrappers. A couple of chips to the lower corner of rear wrappers one of the foldouts with a tear at the fold-line light spine erosion. But a very good copy of this very ephemeral piece. Game rules seem to have had short life spans. There is no history or definition of this game but from reading the catalog it seems to be a variety of croquet. But instead of simple hoops this game used very elaboarate and expensive pieces. Castles that actually look like castles for example. This was an expensive piece of advertising and surely was meant more as a promotional than as a catalog. A yard game for the well heeled. The West & Lee Game and Printing Co. unknown
