25094Copy undated on paper watermarked 'JOHN WISE / 1804'. Letter dated from Paris 24 February 1806. 2pp folio on both sides of the first leaf of a bifolium of wove paper watermarked ‘JOHN WISE / 1804’ the second leaf being blank. The watermark and handwriting would imply that the copy is a contemporary one made for a British governmental department begging the question how access had been gained to the original. Forty-nine lines of text. Stamp of the celebrated ‘Bibliotheca Lindesiana’ of the Earl of Crawford at bottom-right of recto with manuscript accession number beneath: ‘3745’. In fair condition lightly aged but with thin band of wear and creasing at the head with 1cm closed tear at head of central vertical fold. The word ‘Copie’ is written at top-left of the recto which is headed ‘Paris 24 Février 1806’ and addressed to ‘S. A. Mo. le Mal. Berthier / Mter. de la Guerre’. Accompanied by a neatly typed three-page transcription on three leaves stapled together with edge strips reinforced with white cloth and two punch holes. The transcript is headed: ‘TALLEYRAND. Ch. Mau. / 24.2.06. / Copy Despatch 2 pp. fol.’ with the following in pencil: ‘Enclos II. in Talleyrand 25. 2. 06.’ Begins: ‘Ca Majesté me charge Monsieur le Maréchal de vous faire connaitre ses intentions relativement à l’évacuation par les troupes françaises d’Allemagne en Général et de la Place de Braunau en particulier. / S. M. veut faire avec la Cour de Vienne une convention par laquelle cette cour accorde l’usage d’une route militaire a travers ses possessions pour aller par terre depuis Palmanova jusqu’en Dalmatie.’ Orders are given for ‘M. le Général Andréossy’ and ‘M. de Lezia-Mamezia’. Dimensions of print roughly 13 x 17 cm. On original grey paper windowpane mount 22 x 27.5 cm. Engraved label 4 x 12.5 cm beneath the print with small remarque-style illustrations. Aged and spotted with slight wear to the print. An unusual and attractive piece of Napoleonic iconography a full-length image of the deposed Emperor of the French characteristically attired on a beach with his hand on a rock looking out to a sunset at sea. When held up to the light the Emperor is surrounded by a large group of enthusiastic soldiers one of whom is waving a tricolor. Scarce. No reference to this item on the web. The dioramic print was introduced to England in 1821 by the French photographer Joseph Daguerre. Undated [circa 1838]. 'London: Published by T. Dawson, 29, Bedford St. Covent Garden.' unknown

Biographical note: born in Nice in 1921 Colette Monceau was a student of Charles Dullin in the second half of the forties and played in several plays during the same period. At the end of the 1950s she took courses at Pierre Foix's school of graphology in Paris and worked in particular on dance as part of the exam for the Group of Consulting Graphologists of France. Having become a consultant graphologist she also teaches this technique. Particularly interested in the writings of Louis Jouvet and Sarah Bernhardt she wrote three works that remained unpublished as well as several articles. It constitutes a thousand files devoted to actors and actresses as well as personalities from varied backgrounds. Colette Monceau née Nancey 1921-2016. Notice biographique : née à Nice en 1921 Colette Monceau est élève de Charles Dullin dans la seconde moitié des années quarante et joue dans plusieurs pièces à cette même période. À la fin des années cinquante elle suit les cours de l’école de graphologie de Pierre Foix à Paris et travaille notamment sur la danse dans le cadre de l'examen du Groupement des graphologues conseils de France. Devenue graphologue-conseil elle enseigne également cette technique.
