It is a virulent pamphlet directed against Napoleon himself circulated by one of his best-known opponents: General Jean Sarrazin 1770-1848 who had defected to the enemy on 10 June 1810 having himself conveyed aboard an English brig by a fishing boat from Boulogne. Full red blind-stamped cloth binding smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets gilt initials at the foot of the spine discolouration marks to the spine blue paper endleaves and pastedowns. Foxing. Work illustrated with a portrait of General Kléber as frontispiece. Sentenced to death in absentia by the Lille court-martial on 15 November 1810 Jean Sarrazin was only able to return to France on 23 April 1814 during the First Restoration. Still an attractive binding of this piece of Napoleonana. Thought to be written by Baron Antoine-Henri Jomini. Jomini is considered a father of modern military strategy and was the only author of strategy taught at West Point before the Civil War. 115556Very Good. Folio 314 × 201 mm one page of printed text with manuscript insertions on 'Ministere de l'Instruction publique et des Cultes' letterhead 10 May 1856. The lengthy decree is written in a neat secretarial hand; two folds a few creases and short sealed tears at the top and bottom edges; slight traces of prior mounting on the verso; in very good condition. The decree confirms the appointment of Georges Frédéric Fallot as Lutheran pastor in the parish of Dampierre-les-Bois near Audincourt Doubs. It is countersigned by Hippolyte Fortoul Ministre de l'Instruction publique et des Cultes. The decree was apparently cancelled soon after it was issued; it is crossed out with the word 'annulé' added in ink in the left-hand margin and a pencilled cross through the blank registration stamp. Napoleon III 'the nephew of Napoleon I was the first President of France from 1848 to 1852 and the last French monarch from 1852 to 1870. First elected president of the French Second Republic in 1848 he seized power in 1851 when he could not constitutionally be re-elected and became the Emperor of the French. Andra verket är en översättning av “Mémoires secrètes sur Napoléon Buonaparte†som utkom i Paris 1814. Provenance: Latimer Clark.</p> <p>The Abbé Moigno an eminent mathematician physicist and science writer authored several works on telegraphy. His correspondent John Brett laid the first submarine telegraph cable between England and France in 1850 and was one of the founders of the Atlantic Telegraph Company. Moigno's letter to Brett written the year before Brett laid his first submarine cable asks Brett for news of his current researches "N'avez-vous rien de nouveau à m'apprendre Quand ferez-vous une nouvelle expérience" and asks Brett to supply him with an electric battery for a M. Soleil "M. Soleil n'ose pas me dire qu'il a absolument besoin de la pile mais je m'en aperçois chaque jour. Pourriez vous fixer à peu près l'époque à laquelle vous pourrez la rendre". Signed by then Emperor of France Napoleon III nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte. In December 1851 he staged a coup d'etat and one year later proclaimed himself Emperor. While the counter signature of the Grand Chancellor of the Order is difficult to decipher Marshal Bernard Pierre Magnan was in the position at that time.<br /> <br /> Recipient Pierre Joseph Cardolle was born in Toulon on 27 July 1815 - Coming of age in the 1830s at the moment France launched its conquest of Algeria. The conflict defined a generation of French soldiers and was a prolific source of Legion of Honor awards. The back dating of his seniority is commemorative to a life in the of foreign service.
