Notable alumni of the NEC include Angela Bassett Samuel L. Jackson and Giancarlo Esposito among numerous others.

Offered here is a booklet about the NEC’s production of Joseph A. pp. 316 + Plus color map frontis of Florida, color map of Stonewall Jackson's Valley Campaign, engraved portrait of Stonewall Jackson, Recumbent statue of General Lee. Illustrated with two maps of Civil War battlefield campaigns. Slightly browned. Penciled ownership of Bertie McKee. Top edge gold gilt. 8vo. Original full purple cloth binding, slightly worn. Henry Martyn Field (1822-1907) was one of a quartet of distinguished brothers. An author and clergyman he wrote extensively about his world travels. He went to Florida for his health and here, records his impressions of the state. It is an especially valuable account of the Civil War and race relations at the time. Here he makes the claim that segregation was part of human instinct which could not be overcome through legislation. Hi greatest early celebrity came from his marriage in the 1850s to Mlle. Henrietta Deluzy-Desportes, the one-time governess to the ill-fated Charles de Choiseul-Praslin, Duc de Praslin whose murder of his wife Fanny (daughter of Marshal Horace Sebastiani) and apparent suicide help set off the events leading to the overthrow of King Louis Philippe's reign in 1848. New English Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In English. 264 p., color ills. Byzantium's other empire: Trebizond. Edited by Antony Eastmond. Trebizond, that "long-anticipated city of the Komnenians with its soft and melodious name" to quote Jakob Fallmerayer, has long lured scholars, attracted by its unique combination of Byzantine familiarity and Anatolian foreignness. From 1204 to 1461 the city was at the heart of an empire that proudly proclaimed its inheritance of Byzantine power, but simultaneously stood apart from it; a "Greek Emirate" surrounded by Turkish and Caucasian states. Focusing on the church of Hagia Sophia in Trebizond, with its unusual architecture, unique sculptural decoration and extraordinary wall paintings, Byzantium's Other Empire: Trebizond reveals the ways in which these tensions were expressed in public in the monuments of the empire. It draws extensively on the photograph and drawing archives of David and June Winfield, held in the Conway Library at the Courtauld Institute of Art. The Winfields restored the church from 1959-1963, in a project masterminded by David Talbot Rice. Here, Talbot Rice's photographs from 1929, as well as those of other early scholars who visited Trabzon, notably Gabriel Millet in 1893 and Fyodor Uspenskii in 1916-1917 are presented. These scholars recorded the city, its palaces, churches and monasteries. They provide glimpses of a lost empire and of the city of Trebizond which has been transformed in the decades since their visits. This volume also includes the first published translation into English of the fourteenth-century chronicle of Michael Panaretos.
