Later editions. Cujas a professor of law at the universities of Cahors Bourges Valencia and Turin was the preeminent authority on Roman law in his day. The author of several commentaries he was also an important philologist who recovered and published the Codex Theodosianus and the Basilica. The first work in this volume contains important commentaries on first nine books of the Code the twelve-book legal code established by Justinian I and the 50th book of the Digest a 50-volume collection of judicial commentary that were originally published separately in 1569 and 1570. Both remained standard works into the nineteenth century.
