Titles and volume number to labels on the spine. There is a little rubbing to the corners / edges of the three volumes. A little foxing to the pages but overall in very nice condition. Very slight weakening to the front hinge of vol. 1. Originally published in 1839 this edition was edited by H.S. & A.B.I.P. and edited by Morier. It was published in the UK in the year of Madame Von Paalzow's death. Morier was a diplomat traveller and novelist who was the author of 'The adventures of Haji Baba of Ispahan' 190 by 120mm 7½ by 4¾ inches. 3 volumes - 1ère édition Ainsi édition anglaise. Reliure plein cuir de l'époque avec détails dorés et décoration au dos de chaque volume. Titres et tomaison aux étiquettes au dos. Il y a un petit frottement aux coins/bords des trois volumes. Quelques rousseurs sur les pages mais dans l'ensemble en très bon état. Très léger affaiblissement à la charnière avant du vol. 1. Initialement publiée en 1839 cette édition a été éditée par H.S. & A.B.I.P. et édité par Morier. Il a été publié au Royaume-Uni l'année de la mort de Madame Von Paalzow. Bookplates of Coker Court to all FEPs binder's ticket to FEP of Vol. I scattered foxing. The first edition James Justinian Morier's 1782-1849 third published novel. Having pursued a career as a diplomat primarily operating in Persia Morier devoted his retirement to writing first producing two travel books A Journey through Persia Armenia and Asia Minor 1812 and A Second Journey 1818 which both met with critical acclaim. His major work the novel Adventures of Hajji Baba of Isphahan 1824 achieved immense popularity for its perceptive portrayal of Persian life. This was followed by three further novels based on his experiences in Persia including the Oriental romance. Henry Marsh Custard 1806-1895 originally ran a printing business at Parkstone Dorset but ceased printing there at the end of December 1838 and moved to Yeovil. By 1839 Custard was in partnership with William Porter as stationers and printers in Hendford. Porter & Custard printers remained in the premises until their partnership was dissolved in 1841. Publishers' original blind stamped brown cloth by Josiah Westley spine elaborately decorated in gilt and with gilt title to upper portion yellow-coated paste-downs and endpapers replete with publishers' adverts pages uncut and partially unopened. Engraved frontispiece. Ex libris Stephen Williamson with his book plate "Inter Folia Fructus" to front paste-down. Some light rubbing along extremities of spine light offsetting to title-page contents clean and unmarked generally a very good and charming copy. The Adventures of Hajji Baba of Ispahan is a satirical Oriental novel in English. It was written in 1824 by James Justinian Morier a former British envoy who lived in Qajar Iran in 1808–1809 and 1810–1814 amidst the diplomatic difficulties that the country had with European nations. It was followed by a sequel The Adventures of Hajji Baba of Ispahan in England in 1828. This is Volume Two only of the First American Edition. Marbled paper boards with a leather spine and tips. Titling on the spine in gilt within a blk label. Clean text; 280 pages. Rubbed at the margins with a small chip to the head of the spine. Textblock has spotting throughout bu remains quite clear nontheless. The front paste-down has the label contemporary of the "Belles Lettres Society" of Dickinson College. Previous owner notations in pencil to the endpapers. Quite readable today.
