Coastlines was a left-leaning publication that lasted between 1955 and 1964 replacing The California Quarterly when it folded in the mid-1950s. It published many radical poets including John Beecher and Thomas McGrath both of whom lost their teaching positions during HUAC hearings. Minor marks to covers. Overall a good copy of a very rare book. xii 135 pages. RICHARD WATSON was born in Middleton in Teesdale. He attended the Lead mining school from the age of six where is ability with words was spotted. When Richard was 10 his father fell ill and Richard had to leave school and start his career in the lead mining industry. Watson who was hailed as the Teesdale Bard was poor most of his life but he received useful sums now and then and was regularly treated at dinners and other functions where he sang a few songs and recited his verses. He died October 2nd 1891 at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after suffering an accident at work on Holwick Hall. He is buried at St Mary The Virgin Churchyard Middleton-in-Teesdale County Durham England.
