Ida Glenwood pen name for Cynthia Roberts Gorton 1826 - 1894 was a blind poet author and temperance lecturer. Beginning to lose her sight at the age of 14 she became completely blind by her late twenties. Her first prose work the current "The Fatal Secret" was initially written in pencil and practically unreadable but soon after she acquired and became proficient in the newly-invented typewriter which she would use throughout her entire literary life.
