De Grier proves himself to be a most efficient Dutch samurai -- and also finds himself freed of all earthly attachments. The adventure as a whole is replete with philosophical musings. Meanwhile Grijpstra stays in Amsterdam to solve the murder. While de Grier is enjoying the company of a shapely Yakusa hostess -- Grijpstra suffers from the company of his ferocious flabby wife. No date but a separate document is laid in that references the upcoming year of 1983. Possibly this booklet was published about the same time. The history here covers 1836 to 1948 and is organized into two parts: Part One: 1836 to 1865: The New Frontier-Rugged Dangerous and a Buck to be Made and PART TWO erroneously titled Chapter II: 20th Century 1900-1948 - Rapid Change Faster Pace Political Patronage. Each part is followed by several pages of Notes. Highlights for most years are documented in varying amounts of detail making for interesting reading. Laid in at the back of the book is a stapled copy of a six-page document titled "History of the Houston Police Academy L.D. Morrison Sr. Memorial Center. This is the author's Dissertation presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Education in the Graduate School of Texas Southern University. "Specifically the investigator sought to determine the level of achievement by police cadets who possessed no military service and 60 or more semester hours of college military service and no semester hours of college or military service and between 1 and 59 semester hours of college. A statistical design was employed based on one-way analysis of variance and the investigation used a 5-year stratified random sample of 273 police cadets. Scores of police cadets were analyzed with respect to a reading comprehension test State licensing test civil service test academic average driving skill average and firearms skill average. Police cadets with no military service and 60 or more semester hours of college had statistically significantly higher scores than police cadets with prior military service and no semester hours of college on the reading comprehension test the State licensing test the civil service test and academic average. No statistically significant differences between any groups were observed in relation to driving skill averages. Finally police cadets who had prior military service and between 1 and 59 semester hours of college had statistically significantly higher scores on firearms skill averages than nonmilitary cadets.
