A report presented by a select committee on the state of the police of the metropolis following similar investigations from 1816 1817 and 1818 to make further inquiries on the subject. This report discussed a number of pertinent matters including the system of licensing public houses the establishment of penitentiary prisons the extent of prostitution the condition of prisons and correction houses and the state of different metropolis police establishments.An important report paving the way for the establishment of the Metropolitan Police Force in 1829. This particular copy was previously held as a reference work in the Home Office Library with stamps to the front cover and the odd page. Bound in the publisher's original wraps rebacked with card. Externally very good with light soiling and a few stamps to covers. Internally firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with a few areas of scattered spotting and the odd handling mark and stamp.
