He served as U.S. Attorney General and Secretary of State under President Grover Cleveland, and in the latter position, briefly, under Cleveland's successor, William McKinley. As attorney general, Olney used injunctions against striking workers in the Pullman strike, setting a precedent, and advised the use of federal troops, when legal means failed to control the strikers. As secretary of state, he raised the status of America in the world by elevating U.S. diplomatic posts to the status of embassy. Solomon Judah Löb HaKohen Rapoport (17861867) was a Galician rabbi and Jewish scholar. He was born in Lemberg, Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria. He married in 1810 Franziska Freide Heller, the daughter of the well-known Aryeh Leib Heller, and was instrumental in publishing the work Avnei Miluim of his father in law. He wrote both the index, sources and numerous comments. (Wikipedia, 2016) He wrote "Torah Or" against the radical views Geiger had expressed in his Urschrift, rebuked Jost for taking the same attitude in his ? Oka? At Megullah (an open letter to the rabbis assembled at Frankfort-on-the-Main in 1845 ) and assumed a negative attitude toward the convention of German rabbis at Frankfort-on-the-Main in 1845 (JE, 1906) . Dans cette réponse à Jurieu et aux protestants, Bossuet intervient dans l’une des controverses ayant opposé théologiens catholiques et réformés au XVIIe siècle quant au sacrement de la communion donné aux laïcs sous la forme du pain et du vin (les "deux espèces"). À la suite de la parution de ce traité, Pierre Bayle rendit hommage à la modération et à l'érudition de son auteur. L'imprimeur bruxellois Eugène-Henri Fricx (1644-1730), premier de la dynastie, devenu imprimeur du roi et de la Cour, se rendit célèbre par ses éditions de petit format imitées, comme celui-ci, des Elzevier (Tchemerzine-Scheler, I, 848 pour l'édition de Paris). Dos un peu fendillé. Petit cachet ex-libris armorié au faux-titre. Très bon exemplaire, imprimé sur papier vergé, très frais, non rogné, tel que paru.

Bonne édition, dans la traduction de Pierre Le Jeune, protestant français réfugié en Hollande, augmentée de deux "dissertations" sur le 'Traité de la vérité de la religion chrétienne' par Jean Le Clerc. Cette édition reproduit les notes de Grotius en bas de pages et donne un complément de notes historiques par le traducteur. (Ter Meulen, n°1065. Rogge, n°229). Manque de vélin en tête et à une coupe.
