The Jewish Virtual Library cites this work, and includes an image, in its article on Judaic Treasures: From Haven to Home, Sacred Music: Otto Lob's German-English hymnal published in Chicago, which included simple, natural, and light rearrangements of traditional melodies, was also part of the effort to revitalize liturgical music. William Jay (17891858), American jurist and reformer, was the son of John Jay (1745-1829), American patriot, statesman, and Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. For most of the period from 1818 to 1843 he served as Judge of the county court of Westchester, N.Y. An active abolitionist, Jay helped establish (1833) the New York City Anti-Slavery Society and wrote vigorous pamphlets and articles on the topic. He was Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire from 15 February 1874 to 26 April 1875. He was killed by Çerkes Hassan the younger brother of Neserek Kad¿n Efendi, who accused him of the murder of Ottoman Sultan Abdülaziz, on 15 June 1876 during a cabinet meeting of Ottoman Sultan Mehmed Murad V at the Palace of Midhat Pasha near Beyaz¿t in Fatih, Istanbul.

D’abord lié à la Ligue, Pierre Matthieu devint secrétaire du duc de Nemours puis soutint le futur Henri IV. Il contribua à son entrée à Lyon en 1595 et le suivit à Paris où il devint son historiographe officiel. Composé par un familier du roi témoin oculaire des événements qu’il relate, cet ouvrage est riche de nombreux détails alors inédits. Il est cité comme l’une des sources de première main pour l’histoire de l’assassinat de Henri IV (Pour l’édition française cf. Brunet, III, 1532. Sources de l’Histoire de France, 3257. Tchemerzine-Scheler, IV, 635). Manque de papier au dos de la reliure. Très bon exemplaire, très frais, très bien conservé, tel que paru.

Restos de una encuadernación en piel, de la época, de la que se conservan los planos gofrados unidos por una burda lomera en piel moderna. Johannes Cochlæus, uno de los grandes polemistas contra la Reforma en Alemania, había estudiado en Colonia, Nuremberg y Ferrara y contó a lo largo de su vida con la amistad de numerosos humanistas, no obstante su radical desacuerdo con Lutero en sus opiniones sobre el sacramento de la ordenación de los clérigos, la eucaristía y la relación entre el libre arbitrio y la gracia. Dedicó toda su vida, a partir de 1520, a luchar contra la Reforma para intentar preservar la unidad de la Iglesia, participando en todas las Convenciones y Foros, como Worms, Augsburgo y Trento, y escribiendo más de doscientos libros y folletos polémicos, en los que siempre puso de manifiesto su voluntad de compromiso, junto a su portentosa erudición y conocimiento de las posibilidades teológicas, con lo que quedó para la Historia como una figura principalísima de la renovación de la Iglesia Católica Romana en Alemania.
