This study on the Roman Ancyra, undertaken between 2002 and 2007, includes the analysis of archaeological, epigraphic and historical data. Given that the remains that we see today mostly date to the Roman or later periods, the focus of our study has been the Roman period. The absence of a layout which would demonstrate the urban development of the city in the Roman period and the fact that nothing substantial has been published on the buildings of the city, except the temple of Augustus and Roma, makes our project even more important.

This publication, for which Nicola Berlucchi wrote a significant contribution, is the result of intense international collaboration favored by the Vakiflar Genel Müdürlügü association, which is involved in the management of the Ottoman church property estate in Turkey. The work, which describes the application to a Turkish religious structure of a typical European restoration approach, particularly Italian, which involves the reconstruction of all the architectural-architectural phases of the building, is therefore an important witness to the attempt to international dialogue made by Turkey, despite the period of strong instability it faces.

New Turkish Paperback. Pbo. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In Turkish. [ix], [1], 148, [2] p. Bir Galata bankerinin portresi. George Zarifi, 1806-1884. A comprehensive biographical study on Georgios Y. Zariphis, also known as Yorgo Zarifi, was a prominent Ottoman Greek banker and financier. He was also very well known as a prominent benefactor of his time. Zariphis met Sultan Abdul Hamid II when the latter was a shahzade with a low expectation of ascending to the throne. The prince, having financial troubles, called on the expertise of Zariphis to manage his personal wealth. After Abdul Hamid II became sultan, he continued to utilize Zarifi's advisory services. Living at the time when the Ottoman Empire was in great financial distress and had declared bankruptcy, Zariphis was one of the Galata bankers that was involved in the Empire's debt raising. He was also involved in setting up Düyun-u Umumiye (Office of Public Debt) in 1881 that oversaw tax collection and debt payments of the Ottoman Empire. Zariphis also sponsored the foundation of Greek language schools, which were named Zariphia after schools: like the Zariphios School in Philippopolis (present-day: Plovdiv, Ottoman era: Filibe) and Dede Aghach (present-day: Alexandroupoli).
New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (22 x 15 cm). In English. Ills. 266 p. This is the latest in the popular Watermark Architectural Guides series, covering the architecture of this huge and ancient city from Byzantine ruins to modern high-rise. Istanbul is one of the world's most exciting and culturally diverse cities and, like most great cities, it has architecture to match. Covering more than two millennia its buildings range from the lofty and many-tiered aqueducts built by the Romans to Ottoman mosques, with their attendant bath houses, schools and hospitals. In Beyoglu, across from the Golden Horn, banks, arcades, embassies and apartment complexes reflect foreign influences. Here disparate architectural styles such as Belle Epoque, Venetian, Gothic and Art Deco all live on in surprisingly happy harmony. Elsewhere along the Bosphorus visitors can see the Baroque palaces of the Sultans and charming yali - quintessentially Turkish waterside mansions, but looming in the background are the skyscrapers, bridges and other elements of a tech-smart metropolis. This book records all Istanbul's architecture, both historic and modern, with area maps, text and images to provide a comprehensive guide to this exotic city.
