New English Paperback. Mint. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In English. 280 p., 162 numerous b/w ills., 2 folded plates. Roman Ancyra. Translated to English by Elif Keser-Kayaalp. This study on the Roman Ancyra, undertaken between 2002 and 2007, includes the analysis of archaeological, epigraphic and historical data. Given that the remains that we see today mostly date to the Roman or later periods, the focus of our study has been the Roman period. The absence of a layout which would demonstrate the urban development of the city in the Roman period and the fact that nothing substantial has been published on the buildings of the city, except the temple of Augustus and Roma, makes our project even more important.

Artamonoff [Nicolas V.]: Picturing Byzantine Istanbul, 1930-1947. Nicholas V. Artamonoff left behind a photographic puzzle of over one thousand images. He was a student and engineer, who, while studying and living at Robert College in Istanbul, gained an appreciation for the city's history and culture. With his Rollei camera, he captured Byzantine remains, ntering nooks and crannies of fortifications and cisterns. He strolled through the city in the footsteps of architectural historians and archaeologists who explored and uncovered Byzantine Istanbul. his interests were broad: they ranged from imposing churches to the smallest details of architectural sculpture, from bustling marketplaces to the diligent work of lone craftsmen. The abundance of subjects es the Nicholas V. Artamonoff Collection rich and engaging, providing a glimpse into the diverse urban environment in which he lived, and into the versatile photographer he was.

New English Paperback. Demy 8vo. (21 x 15 cm). In English. 140 p. The construction of female citizenship through etiquette books: Turkey, 1930-1943. This book is an investigation into how the etiquette books of the early Republican period attempted to shape society in terms of class and gender issues. The analysis of the books, which are important tools to "civilize" society in both the public and private domains, is important because of their effects on the different dimensions of the period's discourse around citizenship. Through etiquette codes, the ideal citizen who would constitute the new privileged class of the Republic was to be constructed in accordance with the discourse of Westernization, but conspicuously adapted to local circumstances. Accordingly, not only the citizen's dress and deportment, but also the citizen's body and sexual life were to be completely renewed. On the other hand, while the books were defining the "acceptable" citizen, women were taken as an important measure of compliance. Thus, as the symbols of the new and modern life, women's appearance, manners, and all feminine pursuits became signifiers of the social status of modern Turkish men. Consequently, this book reveals that the class and gender dimensions of etiquette books are not independent of each other, but intersect and support one another.
