As a result of the study made on 911 albums containing 35.535 photographs and on the photographers of the albums, almost 370 photographer names emerged. "The Surname-i Hümayun literally translates into Imperial Festival Book, and were albums that commemorated celebrations in the Ottoman Empire in pictorial and textual detail. Such celebrations included mainly imperial weddings and circumcision festivals. These albums were commissioned by the Ottoman Imperial family, usually by the Sultan presiding at the time. The Surname recounts the festivities in order of when the events took place, which includes in detail processions, grand entrance of the Sultan, feasts, entertainers, musicians, dancers, gift giving, firework displays, circumcision and wedding ceremonies. Although many of the Surnames were made to celebrate circumcisions of Ottoman Princes, the first Surname was commissioned in 1524 for a wedding ceremony. This Surname-I Hümayun was commissioned for a circumcision festival, as well it was to commemorate Sultan Murad III's son Prince Mehmed. This festival lasted fifty-two days and was probably one of the most elaborate and grandiose festival the Ottomans had ever held, and it was well documented. The organization of this Surname was done chronologically, each day documented in order with what occurred. The book was created by an author named 'Intizami' which is a pen-name, and the illustrations were done mainly by court artists.".

Located in the Edirnekapi neighborhood of Istanbul and dating as far back as the 6th Century, the Church of Chora Monastery (Kariye Mosque) stands out as a noteworthy Byzantine work of art in the world of art history with its mosaics and frescoes. The monastery was renovated during the Palaeologos Dynasty, also known as the "Third Golden Age" of Byzantine Art, and has spectacular mosaics and frescoes which are at the heart of our work. Before studying these mosaics and frescoes in our book, we provided the vast history of the period in an effort to clarify the themes featured on the panels. Also included in our book is the life story of Theodore Metochites, a versatile administrator and the person behind the creation of the mosaics and frescoes of the monastery which represent the most beautiful examples of Byzantine art. There are mosaics in the exterior and interior narthexes of Chora depicting the lives of Jesus and Mary as well as religious stories, while its domes, arches and walls have both mosaics and frescoes concerning subjects that are interrelated and depicted mostly together and sometimes in different locations. For a holistic recounting of those related depictions that are placed independently from each other, repetitions were necessary at times. In addition to this world-renowned church which we tried to present to you within a broad time line, we also covered the other churches in Istanbul that belong to the Byzantine Period, in the last section of our book. We ended our journey with these churches and monasteries, which are also significant in Byzantine history.

Very Good French Original albumen print photograph by Sebah & Joaillier mounted on cardboard. Size: 25,5x33 cm; photographic size: 21,5x26 cm. Rare albumen print photographs double-sided printed mounted on green cardboard taken by Sebah & Joaillier photograph studio of Constantinople, showing the Bosphorus, view of Therapia Bay and Pier with the Asian and European coasts of the strait. In 1857 photographer Pascal J. Sébah opened a studio in Constantinople, today Istanbul, Turkey. Photographing city views, daily activities, and ancient ruins in the surrounding area, Sébah sold many of his prints to visiting tourists, a prosperous and common market for other contemporary photographers, such as the well-known Abdullah Frères. Tourists would select a range of prints from professional photo studies in the countries they visited and compile a travel album of their journey. In 1888, two years after Pascal J. Sébah passed away, his 16-year old son Jean (Johannes) became involved in the studio work. Jean started a partnership with another photographer from Istanbul, the Frenchman Policarpe Joaillier, which became a great success. Jean worked both on assignments for the studio and as an individual photographer, which can be determined from the signatures on the works: some prints were signed "Sébah & Joaillier," others have the signature "J.P. Sébah" The studio flourished and Sébah & Joaillier were named as the official photographers of the Ottoman Empire by the Turkish sultan. In the early 1900s Joaillier returned to Paris and Sébah continued his work in Constantinople. After different partnerships, the studio was taken over by Ismail Insel and renamed "Foto Sabah" [i.e. Photo Morning].
