The unbound script largely yellow and blue revision pages dated 7/16 through 8/3 1962 is predominantly a carbon typescript with several ribbon typescript pages both on onionskin and 27 mimeograph duplication pages with a single dialogue annotation on page 26-A and page and scene number annotations on all mimeograph pages in holograph ink. The partial script dated 8/7 through 8/14 is a carbon typescript on on pink onionskin with a typed note "Last Half of Script sent to uncredited producer or crewmember Joe Wiseman" attached to the first page by a clip.<br/><br/>The "Scene Breakdown" is an undated 83 page carbon typescript on onionskin with a single dialogue annotation in holograph pencil likely screenwriter Joseph Landon's initial but extensive treatment. <br/><br/>The collections of revision pages include an eight page carbon typescript "Giordano Mountain Meeting" scene dated 7-18-62 on yellow onionskin. The twenty-seventh poem ""has a unique history. Written on a scrap of paper it fluttered into the hands of a soldier sheltering in a slit trench during the battle of El Ahgeila."" Not examined out of frame a few minor background smudges but very good. A stern self-portrait by the artist in 3/4 profile with characteristic tousled hair and expansive eye brows. Inscribed by Flagg likely in the 1930s to his friend Willis Birchman: "Bill -- This is what I seemed to look like in a glass about the age of 30 - Monty." In 1937 Flagg appeared in and contributed an introduction to Birchman's FACES & FACTS BY AND ABOUT 26 CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS. unknown books

The rare short-lived and suppressed Irish literary periodical 'TO-MORROW' with the first appearance of Yeats' 'Leda and the Swan'.Edited by Cecil Salkeld and Henry Stuart 'TO-MORROW' despite its optimistic and future-looking title and the solicitation for content and subscription announcements saw only two issues in 1924 for August and September. The editors had however secured contributions a poem 'TO-MORROW' saw the first publication of 'Leda and the Swan' and an anonymous editorial from Nobel Laureate W. B. Yeats Liam O'Flaherty and Lennox Robinson as well as many others see below and aimed to publish a forum for new Irish poetry and prose that was inclusive and expansive. Unfortunately 'TO-MORROW' was also controversial and was suppressed despite the support of Yeats and others; not only did 'TO-MORROW' fail to invigorate Irish art and bring about a free Irish Renaissance it helped usher in a climate of further repression supression and censorship.The first issue included prose works such as O'Flaherty's 'A Red Petticoat' Robinson's 'The Madonna of Slieve Dun' Salkeld's 'The Principles of Painting' Margaret Barrington's 'Colour' and L. K. Emery's manifesto-like 'A Primitive'. Yeats' 'Leda and the Swan' led the poetry section that also included work by Charlotte Arthur F. R. Higgins Joseph Campbell and R. N. D. Wilson. A sonnet in German by O. F. Fleck was also published.The second issue was in similar format a mixture of prose and poetry opening with Arthur Symons' appreciation of Honoré Daumier featuring the conclusion of Salkeld's 'The Principles of Painting' as well as 'The Poplar Road' by Iseult Stuart H. Stuart's 'In the Hour Before Dawn' 'The Garden' by Sachka and 'The Tendencies of the Younger Irish Poetry' by L. K. Emery. Poetry included further contributions from Charlotte Arthur R. N. D. Wilson and F. R. Higgins as well as a poem by Blanaid Salkeld. O. F. FLeck contributed another poem 'An P'. Each issue included a large woodcut by Cecil Salkeld.'In August 1924 a small literary magazine To-Morrow went on sale in Dublin. As its title implies the magazine's editors Francis Stuart and Cecil Salkeld were buoyed with optimism. They hoped for a new cultural movement in the arts that would parallel its development and in turn influence the newly founded Irish Free State.' Bernard McKenna.'My dream is a wild paper of the young which will make enemies everywhere and suffer suppression I hope a number of times with the logical assertion with all fitting deductions of the immortality of the soul.' The author's account of activity from his relinquishing of the command of the Eighth Army and returning to England to take over 21 Army Group in preparation for the invasion of North-West Europe to the Battle of the Rhine and the surrender. Written by Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein a senior British Army officer who served in the First World War the Irish War of Independence and the Second World War. Previously held in the library of Sir Robert Francis Mudie a British civil servant and a member of the British Indian Civil Service during the British Raj. He was the last British and colonial Governor of Sind and served as the first Governor of West Punjab in the Dominion of Pakistan. In the original red cloth binding. Externally smart with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine. The odd small mark to the boards. Internally firmly bound. Two old horizontal folds a couple of thin stains on the front panel a bit of rubbing about near fine. A program for the film Money Talks in Darktown starring Florence McLain Frank Montgomery Bert Murphy and Jimmie Marshall. The Historical Feature Film Company was a White-owned production studio in Chicago producing films with largely Black casts but which still incorporated all of the racial stereotypes of the period. The company is largely credited with being established in 1915 though this program is for a film releasing on November 30 1914. Following poor public reception to their early films the company changed their name to the Ebony Film Corporation in 1917 in an attempt to appeal to the Black audience and hired Luther J. Pollard a young Black entrepreneur who was given the title of president and general manager. The company officially shut down just a couple of years later. Very scarce. Overall Good condition with some soiling staining and toning. Born in Pennsylvania in 1878 Montgomery became a railroad traffic expert and worked in Pittsburgh Mexico Argentina Chile and Puerto Rico. This collection dates mainly from the late 1920s and early 1930s and includes the following:<br /> <br /> <p>-1928 scrapbook mottled and stained on the front board containing Chilean newspaper clippings relating to transit. Also tipped in is a carbon copy of a letter to Senor Montgomery noting that an "unfair" complaint printed in a Lima newspaper had been instigated by an army officer annoyed that his stop wasn't more conveniently located. Other articles are more complimentary; one scrapbook entry heaps praise upon Montgomery for his skillful management of the challenges of running buses through a densely populated city with narrow streets.<br /> <br /> <p>- 6 small leatherette notebooks dated 1923-1932 including 4 pocket diaries and 2 booklets filled with ruled or graph paper. Entries are minimal and consist mainly of names addresses and appointments. The 1932 diary was issued by the Westinghouse International Electric Company and features Spanish-language information about the company and a foldout map of South America. Moderate to heavy wear to notebooks; one lacking covers.<br /> <br /> <p>- 2 group photographs in which Montgomery appears. The larger creased and somewhat stained is annotated in red ink and features two ambassadors as well as "yours truly." <br /> <br /> <p>- 24 pieces of ephemera from South America including bus and tram ticket books annotated business cards and a pamphlet about the influence of communism on Chile.<br /> <br /> <p>- Correspondence and memoranda. Includes a study of a proposed bus service between Santiago and San Bernardo an opinion piece on scheduling a proposal for Green Bus Lines in Queens and an analysis of service improvements in Argentina. The last notes at the end that "the men are impossible in Tucaman but the manner in which they are controlled is the cause of most of the trouble." Workers were discharged before an investigation then recalled when exonerated with a mea culpa from the Manager -- a manner of proceeding not likely to inspire respect. <br /> <br /> <p>An interesting collection that sheds light on the challenges of transportation planning in the Americas.
