Eric John Dingwall 1890-1986 was a British anthropologist psychical researcher and librarian. He wrote popular books on Sexology and earned the nickname of "Dirty Ding" due to his interests in erotica. He became interested in the paranormal in 1921 and served as a research officer for the Society of Psychical Research from 1922 to 1927 along with being an honorary vice-president for The Magic Circle and a founding member of its Occult Committee. He also co-wrote the skeptical book "Four Modern Ghosts" with Trevor H. A uncommon collection of poetical and theatrical works from the early nineteenth century featuring the works of Thomas Hood William Barnes Rhodes and John Taylor. Three volumes bound in one in a full cloth binding with a gilt title to the spine. The works featured in this volume are as follows: 'The Epping Hunt' a poem by Thomas Hood the noted humorist of the 19th century. He is known to have contributed greatly to publications including Punch and The London Magazine. Illustrated with 6 plates by George Cruikshank collated complete. 'Bombastes Furioso' a play by William Barnes Rhodes. This satirical piece of theatre is regarded as Rhodes seminal work. Illustrated with 7 plates by George Cruikshank collation unavailable. And finally 'Monsieur Tonson' by John Taylor. Illustrated with 7 plates by Robert Cruikshank collation unavailable. George Cruikshank was a noted caricaturist and illustrator of the nineteenth century. With an overtly comic tone Cruikshank's artwork features in many literary works of the period. With additional illustrations by Robert Cruikshank George's lesser known brother who is similarly ranked as a important artist of the 19th century. With a stamp the tail of the rear pastedown with the initials 'M.W.D.N.'. Rebacked. In a full cloth binding. Externally generally smart with bumping to the head and tail of the spine and also to the extremities resulting in light fraying to the cloth. With a small patches of cockling to both the front and rear board alongside a small ink spot to the rear. Light handling marks to the front and rear endpapers and a small initials stamp to the tail of the tail of the rear pastedown. Internally firmly bound.
