B&W frontis' and engravings on half title pgs. Condition is VERY GOOD ; corners edges and ends of spine have moderate wear. Covers are mildly rubbed as are spines. The London surgeon Hood 1808-1890 here advocates the treatment of scarlet fever by "the systematic administration of quinine from an early stage preceded however by an emetic and a purgative and with sundry minor precautions; and the author then strongly affirms not only that his method saves life but that it prevents the occurrence of secondary infections of the viscera particularly renal dropsy."
