Laid down on 62 folio pages paginated 106 to 167 disbound from a log book. All texts clear and complete. Fair on worn aged paper with light staining not affecting text to first leaf. The circulars are mimeographed and typed with facsimile signatures. Beneath each circular is a box table giving the date the circular was sent to each ship with name of ship and chief officer and the date the circular was acknowledged. Approximately 250mm in diameter within a heavily embossed and gilt lettered and decorated framework of stiff black paper boards on the rear is a pastedown of printed information all in German. Very fine very well preserved and still completely functional the gilt with a little wear in places a little bumping. A BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE PLANISPHERE or star-map designed to illustrate the movement of the stars. It provides the position of the stars in the sky for each hour of the year. In the late 19th century these started to become more popular with amateur astronomers astrologists and in pedagogical gatherings. Two hand-coloured engraved star charts printed surfaces 325 × 420 mm matted and glazed in matching wooden frames external dimensions 500 × 610 mm. Colour a little faded; a few unobtrusive spots; bottom right-hand quarter of the Northern Hemisphere chart marked apparently with excess paint from the hand-colouring; two small indentations to the frame of one chart; overall in excellent condition. An attractive pair of hand-coloured star charts showing the northern and southern skies comprising Tavola Cosmografica II from Zatta's famous 'Atlante Novissimo'. At the corners are vignette engravings of important astronomical observatories Pisa Bologna Padua Milan Paris Greenwich Kassel and Copenhagen. The astrological figures of the principal constellations are shown in outline and the Southern Cross labelled 'Croce' can be found near the rear legs of Centaurus. <p>Each chart carries the imprint 'Castellan D.Sc d'Archit di Padova del.
