It is one of the Lou Grant Show which was series of dramas about a Los Angeles newspaper its staff and city editor Lou Grant Ed Asner. In this episode a terrible heat wave leads to an outbreak of major brushfires in several residential parts of Los Angeles. Plot developments include the following: Charlie tells Lou that he and his wife Marion have decided to separate; Mrs. Pynchon calls in a fire story from a riding stable; Rossi interviews firefighters and frightened residents as entire neighborhoods are evacuated and houses are consumed in minutes; Charlie learns that fires have spread into his neighborhood and rushes home to check on Marion; Charlie works to save his house despite the warnings of the firefighters; Billie tries politely to keep her visiting father out of her hair as she covers the disaster from the city room; Animal learns he is suspected of arson by a fire department investigator; and Charlie and Marion make a decision about their relationship. Alan Alda in his first starring role plays Plimpton who has put himself into the sports arena writing about his experiences. He's entered the ring with a professional boxer and pitched in an All-Star game. He decides to try his hand at being the quarterback of a professional football team and he gets his opportunity with the Detroit Lions. While everyone involved agrees to keep his secret feigning time spent as a semi-pro in Canada it soon becomes clear that he is clueless on the field. Eventually he earns his teammates' respect and even gets to play in an exhibition game. <br/><br/>Shot on location in New York Missouri and Florida. <br/><br/>Blue titled wrappers. The serial features United States Marines battling main villian "The Lightning" in a sci-fi thriller. Star Bruce Bennett born Herman Brix;1906 - 2007 was a star athlete University of Washington 1926 Rose Bowl; Silver Medal shot put 1928 Amsterdam Olympics who was set to play Tarzan until a movie injury sidelined him in favor of Johnny Weissmulloer. He did play Tarzan in 1935 The New Adventures of Tarzan and 1938 Tarzan and the Green Goddess. He changed his name to Bruce Bennett and had a full career as a supporting actor. He is probably best known today for his role as tne intruding miner in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre 1948. He died in 1907 at age 100.
