Draft script for the 1958 British comedy copy belonging to Art Director George Provis with the annotation of his name along the top edge of the front wrapper with manuscript pencil annotations on four pages.<br /> <br /> George Provis was a British Art Director and Production Designer who began his career working on quota quickies low budget features made to comply with Britain's Cinematograph Films Act of 1927 in the 1930s. After the Second World War Provis was appointed by British film producer Sydney Box to head the art department at Gainsborough Pictures and is credited on over 120 films.<br /> <br /> Sequel to the 1958 British film "Up the Creek" also directed by Val Guest and starring David Tomlinson and Peter Sellers. Sellers was unable to appear in the sequel because of scheduling conflicts with another film. When the Navy frigate the "Aristotle" is sold to a fictitious Middle Eastern power the ship's bosun played by Frankie Howerd sells tickets for the voyage as a luxury cruise unbeknownst to the Captain.<br /> <br /> Shot on location in Portland Harbour England. <br /> <br /> Pink titled wrappers. Title page present with credits for screenwriters Val Guest John Warren and Len Heath. 199 leaves with last page of text numbered 195. Mimeograph duplication rectos only. The seven items are in good condition lightly aged and worn. ONE: Typed article titled ‘The Other Tyrone Power / by / W. Macqueen-Pope.’ Undated. 11pp 4to paginated 1-9 with two-page ‘Inset’. With a few minor autograph emendations. Begins: ‘At the present moment Mr Tyrone Power “in person†is appearing at the London Coliseum in a play called “Mr Robertsâ€. . The fact is that there was another Tyrone Power who was a very celebrated actor indeed in his time.’ TWO: Another copy of Item One but without any autograph emendations. THREE: Page proof of MP’s article stamped ‘19 AUG 1950 / EVERYBODY’S’. 1p folio with small square of paper with additional text attached at foot and proof of a cartoon titled ‘Ferrier’s Searchlight critical of Noel Coward’s play ‘Ace of Clubs’. FOUR: TLS to MP from Sidney Gordon Features Editor. 1p small 4to. He informs him that the editor ‘Mr Poke’ Greville Poke 1912-2000 who also has an Oxford DNB entry ‘would very much like to go ahead with it. / It would certainly tie-up with “Mister Roberts†and perhaps you would send the MS in to us as soon possible’. FIVE: Carbon of TL from MP to ‘Mr. Gordon’ 28 July 1950. He is enclosing the article with suggestions for illustrations including photos of the film star by Angus McBean. He is especially grateful to her for her informative letter as he would ‘like to put this actor who has been so neglected into some sort of proper recognition and remembrance’. He discusses the colour of Power’s hair before concluding ‘I know Mr Tyrone Guthrie but never knew of his connection with Power.’ Postscript: ‘Besides my work in the Theatre and at Drury Lane I am a theatre historian with a fair amount of books to my credit.’ Seven items, all dating from 1950. Very Good Turkish First and only edition of this very rare 20th century Turkish-Americana, and the first book written to introduce the world of Hollywood to the Turkish audience, by the first Turkish society reporter. Turan Aziz Beler was a modern pioneer of magazine journalism in Turkey. Beler was born in Istanbul in 1912. He started his literary career as a journalist. His first novel "Sevda" [i.e. Love] also stands out but "Türedi Ailesi" [i.e. Türedi Family] brought him fame. According to Beler's foreword in the book, the purpose of his travel is to clarify all things known incorrectly about Hollywood in Turkey. He spent three and a half years in Hollywood with many celebrities and interviewed American stars. He examined the conditions under which American popular cinema was formed. According to his own statement, he expressed the witty language that he was grateful to Hollywood for not having gotten married or gotten beaten He has very interesting and funny wording in this 1930s Hollywood travel memoirs. This book caused him to be sentenced to two years in prison in Turkey according to contemporary sources. Paperback. Large roy. 8vo. (25 x 18,5 cm). In Turkish. 213, [3] p., many b/w plates.
