In this volume dedicated to Queen Margherita of Savoy they have departed from the use of the ultra-small type used in these earlier volumes and employ a good legible 4,5-point type. The almanack contains an explanation of its use including an overview of the dominical letter golden number epact and cycle of the sun for the year 1851 a 4 page view of the "mansions of the Earl Spencer and the Earl of Ellesmere in the green park" engraved by H. Adlard an overview of sun and moon eclipses in that year the calendar a "regal table" overview of British monarchs since 1066 an overview of the Royal family of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and their children lists of great officers of state of Great Britain and Ireland an overview of stamps bills and promissory notes and finally a list of "transfer days at the bank &c." including the South Sea House and India House.The London Almanack was published by the Company of Stationers from the end of the 17th century until the end of the 19th century. They are of special interest for their fine publisher's bindings but also for their striking views of London.With a manucript owner's inscription on the front blank endpaper recto of the engraved title page in pencil "A. S. Wossley" and pencil annotations between the printed lines of the calendar. The slipcase shows minor signs of wear the binding is slightly damaged at the head and foot of the spine not affecting the integrity of the binding. Title page in red and black with a woodcut vignette an open book on a shell with decorations 7 full-page 3.3 x 1.6 cm! woodcuts depicting important scenes from the Bible 1 as frontispiece and 1 opening each of the 5 books and the appendix each book and the appendix with a headpiece built up from typographic ornaments followed by a drop-title in red and ending with a typographic ornament in red as a tailpiece. Set in roman type with incidental italic. 80 pp. First and only Dutch edition deluxe issue with the title page and 12 other pages printed in red and black of De Groots thumb Bible one of the curious miniature books printed in the Netherlands in the mid-18th century in a tiny roman type 37 mm/20 lines or 5.5 point as a curiosity and collectors item or to be used as a Bible in a dollhouse. The text is an abstract or summary of the contents of the Bible in five books and an appendix containing a prayer incipit: The illustrations and ornamental headpieces all in miniature and in the present deluxe issue also the printing in red and black make the book a show piece for the skill of 18th-century Dutch printing enhanced here by the contemporary gold-tooled miniature binding. Abkouda records De Groot offering this edition in five kinds of bindings and unbound at prices ranging from 4 to 30 stuivers so he probably commissioned bindings from several binders. The present copy is probably what he calls a Frans bandje 9 stuivers. So uncommon it has NOT been identified by Courtney & Smith Johnson Bibliography with Supplement e.g. pp.57-59. The eighth edition of A Dictionary of the English Language appeared in 1799; the ninth edition in 1805. William Duane' must date after 1808 when Duane became a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army; he also held the rank of colonel from 1813 to 1815. Duane helped Benjamin Franklin Bache publish the Philadelphia Aurora the principal voice of the Jeffersonian Republicans. His paper was responsible for stemming the tide of war against france in the late 1790s and contributed greatly to Thomas Jefferson's election in 1800." Trentasei miniature a tutta pagina raffigurano le quarantadue costellazioni e le Pleiadi; due ulteriori immagini illustrano la rappresentazione mitologica dei cinque pianeti e la personificazione delle quattro stagioni.
