202136780Riverside CA: Bo Press Miniature Books 2021. Fine. Number 21 of 30 variant copies. Each copy is in a different box bound in papers to match the box. Pat Sweet describes herself as creating illuminated miniature books of curiosity humor and delight. She creates both miniature under 3 inches and macro-miniature under 1 inch books. This book is from a limited edition which is signed by the artist. According to the book artist: "Bo Press Miniature Books began in 2007 with a little book called Celestial Variations. Since then another one hundred and forty-seven one hundred and forty-eight now books have emerged with subjects as diverse as maps of real and imaginary places poetry architecture history flea circuses and books themselves.
The History of Bo Press is a collection of every book I've ever written illustrated designed and published that I can remember since then. This is a fairly easygoing bibliography and a few lacunae are to be expected from someone like me who hates to keep records. The book listings include title author illustrator and pages." Both volumes are bound in tan marbled paper with paper title labels to spines and front boards. Housed in a slipcase covered in marbled paper and off-white handmade paper with a metal chain lining the seams of where the papers meet. Each volume is 170 pages. Size: Books: 2 3/4 x 2 1/8 inches; Case: 3 x 2 1/4 x 1 5/8 inches. ARTB/091123. Bo Press Miniature Books unknown

24783No date franked 3 July 1838. 11 Bulstrode Street Manchester Square London. An uncommon signature of a neglected artist. Hawkins was a founding member of the Society of British Artists exhibiting there prolifically from 1824 to 1881. He also showed at the Royal Academy eight times between 1822 and 1849. See Holmes's entry in the Oxford DNB. On 14 cm square piece of watermarked wove paper cut from a frank. The letter is written on the reverse of the cover which is laid out in the customary way: ‘London third July 1838 / Wm. Loney Esq / Macclesfield.’ With red dated postmark and signed in the customary way at bottom left: ‘John Baron’. In fair condition lightly aged with traces of blue paper mount adhering to the cover side. The letter reads: ‘My dear Sir / Our friend James Holmes requested me to preserve a Frank for the inclosed I have done so but have unfortunately upset a bottle of varnish over the letter - which accounts for its being in such a filthy state which I trust you will excuse. - I am truly happy to hear from Roe - that you are well and as happy as can to sic expected - I am painting a portrait of Mr Roe which I think promises to be very successful - I trust you will give me a call when you come to Town / believe me / most truly yours &c / Henry Hawkins’. Gedruckt im Jahr Christi 1705 no place or name of publisher. A briefer title precedes with a large woodcut vignette in a format similar to the illustrations appearing throughout the rest of the work. The 24 woodcut illustrations of saints provide the chance for prayer at each hour of the day.

The first work has been attributed to Martin of Cochem 1630-1712 who was a professor of theology and priest in the Archdiocese of Trier who worked with plague victirms and wrote many popular religious books in German on church history the lives of saints and contemplation during the mass. A discussion appears on A11v and A12r of the first part in which the Blessing of Saint Zacharias in the form of symbols cross and letters which represent the lines of the blessing is said to prevent the plague when worn on the body. hardcover
