There was a Harper and Brothers edition in 1937 marked "First Edition" which is far more elaborately produced than this edition so we suspect this to be a reprint. publisher's cloth-backed boards illustrated in color in dust jacket. Light brown stain on the front endsheet; corners bumped and worn; light rubbing to edges. The jacket is lacking the bottom two inches of the spine; front joint split; one coin-sized chip to a corner with other smaller chips; light soiling and a few short closed tears. Mammoth size albumen and silver salts on paper print measuring 14-1/2 x 20-7/8 inches wide mounted onto card measuring 22 x 28 inches wide with "W. NOTMAN PHOTO" stamped in blind at bottom right edge. Photo is faded and yellowed card mount appears brittle w. some soil and chips to edges verso w. soil and stains from a previous mounting and framer's notes in pencil. This 4-4-0 CPR locomotive was built by the Canadian Pacific Railway Company New Shops in Montreal Quebec. It was completed and entered service on October 1886. Its builder's plate number was 1022.
