197021968ELos Angeles: Quinn Martin Productions 1970. Original final draft shooting script with color rewrite pages for the feature film The Mephisto Waltz written by Ben Maddow adapted from the novel by Fred M. Stewart co-starring Bradford Dillman and directed by Paul Wendkos. This was Dillman’s working script with his extensive notations throughout. Bradbound in printed studio covers 131 pages dated May 5 1970. With Dillman’s estate stamp which reads “From the Library of Bradford Dillmanâ€. Very good plus copy with a hint of use. Dillman co-starred with Alan Alda Jacqueline Bisset Barbara Parkins William Windom Curd Jurgens and Curt Lowens. The film’s title is taken from the piano work by Franz Liszt and tells the story of a pianist’s Alda failed career as a performing musician who as a result turns to music journalism as a second choice with murder and Satanic themes involved. It is interesting to note that this production was the only big-screen work of veteran television producer Quinn Martin. Bradford Dillman 1930-2018 was one of Hollywood’s best regarded actors among his peers and the public. He was trained at the Actors Studio under Lee Strasberg and knew James Dean in early television. Dillman rose to sudden fame with his appearance in Richard Fleisher’s film Compulsion 1959 with Dean Stockwell and Orson Welles and continued in movies throughout his career in such films as The Way We Were The Iceman Cometh The Enforcer Sudden Impact Crack in the Mirror Escape From the Planet of the Apes Francis of Assisi Piranha The Swarm etc. A great success in television Dillman appeared in a remarkable number of shows and made for TV movies in a variety of genres including Mission Impossible The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Columbo Wagon Train Ironside Dynasty The Wild Wild West Thriller Wonder Woman Cannon Barnaby Jones and many others. Quinn Martin Productions unknown books
1942WRCLIT71662Washington DC: GPO / Office of War Information 1942. Folio broadside 38 x 28"; 97 x 72 cm scant. Printed by offset lithography in colors with OWI/GPO imprint and date in extreme lower margin. Professionally linen mounted lower margin with imprint retained top and side margins trimmed. With signs of minor color fill at apexes of top folds but otherwise a very good to fine bright example. Rolled. An exceptionally powerful image prepared by Shahn in response to the massacre at Lidice depicting a shackled and hooded man against a brick wall with the dated newswire report of the Lidice massacre superimposed over the figure and the brilliant red caption: "This is Nazi Brutality." Shahn worked for the OWI from the Autumn of 1942 until the Summer of the following year and although he produced a number of images for the agency only two were actually utilized -- the others were dismissed as too violent or as not sufficiently appropriate to the topic of the home front. Shortly thereafter he began his work with the CIO-PAC. GPO / Office of War Information unknown books

54622Paris: self-published 1966. Square quarto 27 × 26 cm. Thread-stitched sections in original printed folder; 72 pp. With numerous mounted and separately laid-in multiples and graphics: one original graphic two folded graphically designed plates four enclosed plates of concrete poetry eight enclosed typographically designed pages unopened section two mounted envelopes with ten printed small cards each by Ben Vautier and one vinyl record with recordings by Raul Hausmann poèmes phonétiques 1918 Bernard Heidsieck and Henri Chopin. Folder with signs of use; edges of the folder slightly damaged; else good or better. Single issue of the rare avant-garde journal which Henri Chopin edited published and partly produced in his own home. Influenced by the Dadaists Chopin unlike the Lettrists was not only interested in pictorial poetry but above all in tonal poetry. Lettrism did not go far enough for him in terms of the dissolution of linguistic conventions and the use of new media. In 1958 he took over the editorship of the conventional poetry magazine "Cinquième Saison" in which he published early reflections on phonetic poetry. The last issue under this title contained a record and among other things the poet René Ghil's prophecy: "In 50 years the poet will be operating phonetic machines." Number 20/21 was then published under the new title "OU". This underlined the radical change in the journal which from then on resembled "multimedia compendia" or "poetic wonder bags" Marc Matter filled with loose leaves screen prints posters fanfolds relief images typographic collages sometimes even three-dimensional objects and regularly a record. In this way Dadaism Futurism Ultra-Lettrism Fluxus Concrete Poetry etc. were mixed together. Chopin consistently self-published the elaborate journal for ten years. He and his wife worked endlessly at home to put together the individual issues and sent them out all over the world. Cf. 1927521461927. Letter. Very good. Two typed letters signed from Hecht to his close friend and editor Henry Justin Smith circa 1927 and shortly thereafter. Written soon after Hecht's return to New York to work on his novel he reminisces about hsi years at the Chicago Daily News before his life changing move to Hollywood and transformation to successful screenwriter. Film historian Richard Corliss wrote "Hecht personifies Hollywood itself" Pauline Kael said "Between them Hecht and Jules Furthman wrote most of the best American talkies." The First letter is worn chipped with tape ghosts from old repair. Later letter is very good with Hecht's manuscript addition. <br/><br/> unknown
