H Βενετία δÎχθηκε τις ξÎνες επιÏÏοÎÏ‚ για να τις αναμοÏφώσει σε δικÎÏ‚ της καλλιτεχνικÎÏ‚ και αÏχιτεκτονικÎÏ‚ εκφÏάσεις και αποδÎχθηκε το ξÎνο μόνον Î±Ï†Î¿Ï Ï„Î¿ Îκανε δικό της. Οι βυζαντινÎÏ‚ επιÏÏοÎÏ‚ ήταν σαφείς από τον 11ο-13ο αιώνα στην αÏχιτεκτονική των αστικών κατοικιών Casa-fondaco κατά μήκος του Μεγάλου ÎšÎ±Î½Î±Î»Î¹Î¿Ï Canal Grande. Η επίδÏαση που είχε η βυζαντινή Ï„Îχνη και αÏχιτεκτονική στη Βενετία είναι σαφής στα συντακτικά στοιχεία στο αÏχιτεκτονικό λεξιλόγιο και στις επιτοίχιες διακοσμήσεις της βασιλικής του Αγίου ΜάÏκου 9ος-13ος αιώνας όπου Ï€Ïοσκλήθηκαν και συμμετείχαν Βυζαντινοί τεχνίτες και αÏχιτÎκτονες. Ο ναός του Αγίου ΜάÏκου αποτÎλεσε άλλωστε Îνα από τα Ï€Ïότυπα των ναών της Ï€Ïώτης ΑναγÎννησης της Βενετίας Ï„Îλη 15ου - αÏχÎÏ‚ 16ου αιώνα. Ο γνωστός αÏχιτÎκτων και λόγιος Leon Battista Alberti 1404-1472 Ï€Ïότεινε μία άποψη για την κÏιτική της Ï„Îχνης συγγενική με τη θεωÏία του Î½ÎµÎ¿Ï€Î»Î±Ï„Ï‰Î½Î¹ÏƒÎ¼Î¿Ï ÏƒÏ„Î¿ β΄ μισό του 15ου αιώνα επηÏεασμÎνη από τον Βυζαντινό λόγιο Εμμανουήλ ΧÏυσολωÏά ο οποίος δίδαξε πολλοÏÏ‚ ΙταλοÏÏ‚ ανθÏωπιστÎÏ‚: "Στα αγάλματα και στη ζωγÏαφική δεν θαυμάζουμε τόσο την ομοÏφιά των σωμάτων αλλά πεÏισσότεÏο το πνεÏμα των καλλιτεχνών. Αυτό το πνεÏμα σαν κεÏί Ï€Î¿Î»Ï ÎºÎ±Î»Î¬ πλασμÎνο δημιοÏÏγησε με Ï€ÎÏ„Ïα και με ξÏλο με μπÏοÏντζο και με χÏώματα μία εικόνα που Îπλασε ο καλλιτÎχνης με τον νου του". Οι Έλληνες της Βενετίας πολλαπλασιάστηκαν μετά την πτώση της ΚωνσταντινοÏπολης και κατά τον 15ο και 16ο αιώνα συνεισÎφεÏαν σημαντικά στην ΑÏχιτεκτονική τη ΧαÏτογÏαφία τη μελÎτη των Μαθηματικών τη Φιλοσοφία τη Îαυπηγική και στην ταχÏτεÏη μετάδοση της γνώσης χάÏις στην τυπογÏαφία. Στο δικό τους αÏχιτεκτονικό και πολεοδομικό σÏνολο της πλατείας των Ελλήνων 16ος-17ος αιώνας Campo dei Greci είναι εμφανής ο συσχετισμός των επιλογών τους με την πολιτική με ιστοÏικά γεγονότα με τη θÏησκεία και με τον Ï„Ïόπο σκÎψεως. ΟÏισμÎνες από τις αναλογίες που συναντώνται στη χάÏαξη της όψεως του Î½Î±Î¿Ï Ï„Î¿Ï… Αγίου ΓεωÏγίου των Ελλήνων παÏαπÎμπουν στις αÏμονικÎÏ‚ αναλογίες της πυθαγόÏειας κλίμακας. Η εξάπλωση των Ελλήνων στην πόλη και η συμμετοχή τους σε ÎÏγα επώνυμης αÏχιτεκτονικής ναοÏÏ‚ κοινωφελή ÎÏγα και απλÎÏ‚ κατοικίες επιβεβαιώνει τη μοναδικότητα της αυλής των Ελλήνων ως χώÏου εκπÏοσώπησης της ελληνικής αδελφότητας και επιβεβαιώνει την ταυτότητά τους στην αÏχιτεκτονική και την πολεοδομία στο σÏνολο της πόλης.
