First edition of this nicely printed woodblock-engraved souvenir linen scarf for the 1876 Centennial International Exhibition held in Philadelphia that year featuring the Art Gallery now known as Memorial Hall and the only large exhibit building still standing on the Exposition site. The Memorial Hall was designed by Herman Schwarzmann in a beaux-arts style and reopened in 1877 as the Pennsylvania Museum of Art and included originally the Pennsylvania Museum School of Industrial Art. The building now houses the “Please Touch Museum†children’s museum and through assorted funding issues managed to emerge from bankruptcy in 2016 and continue to operate. [n.p.], unknown

No similar examples could be located in Peel BAC/LAC or the Manitoba Legislative Library. <br/><br/>¶ An original and rare gathering of eight prize cards from the Portage Industrial Exhibition held annually in Portage la Prairie Manitoba. These thick cards were designed to be durable intended for display on livestock pens or produce crates during the fair. The collection comprises of three First Prize Red and five Second Prize Blue cards most bearing manuscript notations which record the "Class" "Section" "Entry No." "Article" and "Exhibitor Details". First edition of this guidebook to the very successful California Pacific International Exposition held in San Diego over two years at the depths of the Great Depression to revive the Southern California economy which featured a number of unusual concessions and exhibits such as the Gold Gulch Lost Continent of Mu the Zoro Garden Nudist Colony and the “One Ton Mechanical Man.†Several of the exhibits used at the recently closed Century of Progress Exposition in Chicago 1933-1934 were re-used for the CPIE. Requa 1881-1941 famed San Diego architect was one of the founders of the very influential Requa & Jackson architectural firm and were the architects of choice in San Diego and Los Angeles during the booming 1920s who developed the “Southern California Architecture†style drawing upon the historical architecture of the Colonial Mexico the Pueblos of the Southwest and the Moorish features from Spain and North Africa was the Master Architect for the California Pacific International Exposition of 1935-36 and preserved the buildings which are still evident in Balboa Park. Recreations included Cabrillo’s “discovery†of California; founding of the first Mission at San Diego by Father Junipero Serra; The Bear Flag Revolt; 1849 Gold Rush; Joaquin Murrieta visits Hangtown; and even Custer’s Last Stand. Linkletter 1912-2010 was a Canadian-American who during the 1930’s was working as a radio personality and announcer in San Diego and then San Francisco and directed programs for Fairs and Expositions across the U.S. best remembered for his People are Funny TV show 1954-1961. Images include views of the Portland waterfront logging rafts near Swan Island municipal and commercial buildings downtown street scenes with mix of horse-drawn wagons & buggies with Brass Era automobiles City Park the statues “Coming of the White Man†and “Sacajawea†installed during the Exposition and a panoramic birds-eye view taken from the Heights. Most of the images appear to be shots by Fred H. Kiser an accomplished mountaineer and promoter who was one of the most successful and widely known landscape and commercial photographers in the American West during the opening decades of the 20th century. He and his brother Oscar operated the Lewis & Clark Official Photographic Company at the Exposition which gave them their start and he became well known for his images of National Parks and the picturesque Columbia River Gorge. The book is presented in a dove-grey watersilk folding binding printed in silver. All page edges silver and the whole fits into a matching clam shell box lined in red silk with red titles to upper panel. This is also in a protective white card box with the colophon and limitation label. The box has slight signs of wear but the book amd the clam shell casing is fine. unknown
