Ten RPPC silver gelatin photographs all w/ description and inventory number w/in negative at lower fore-edge slight age toning very slight edgewear still VG. A nice set of 10 souvenir RPPC’s shot during the 100 day run of the Oregon Centennial Exposition. The 1859-1959 Centennial Exposition lasted from June 10 to Sept. 17 on 65 acres along the Columbia River formerly Vanport wiped away in the tragic 1948 flood and also featured a Gayway Amusement Park Garden of Tomorrow & Adventureland. The Exposition featured everything from Mossman’s Can-Can girl revue to steam locomotives Modernist sculptures and murals by Louis Bunce and other Oregon artists and the striking Hall of Religious History in the Garden of Tomorrow which featured murals of Carl Morris. This re-created town from the 1870’s Old West featured the Golden Nugget dance hall & saloon as well as livery stable church post office and hotel and proved to be the most successful attraction. The Oregon Centennial only attracted about 1.5 million visitors and largely operated at a loss which encouraged the nascent Seattle World’s Fair organizers to strip out their Western theme and focus instead on their later very successful Century 21 futurism theme. First edition of this very rare catalogue and giveaway sales brochure for the White Frost Refrigerator Co. exhibit at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. In 1915 most refrigerators if the home had one were large wooden cabinets fitted with a space for ice but the White Frost Refrigerator created a 47 inch tall 27 inch in diameter product with a curved enamel steel case wire rotating shelves able to hold up to 100 pounds of ice for cooling and also cool an exterior water cooler tank. Hugh Smith was the president of the company of this White Frost’s which were first patented in 1906 and were very popular at their PPIE debut. No copies in Worldcat. Store heir and political advocate for Native American rights Dixon created over 8000 negatives and carried out lectures throughout the United States to raise awareness. The PPIE featured a cultural turning point for the popular conception of the Native Americans. First edition of this exceedingly scarce excursion guide for travelers on the American Line enroute to enjoy the 1897 General Art & Industrial Exposition of Stockholm World’s Fair held in 1897 to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of King Oscar II’s reign. Visitors sailed on four different American Line twin-screw steamships including the SS New York SS Paris SS St. Paul and SS St. Louis. Featuring 3722 exhibitors from Sweden Finland Norway Denmark and Russia the exhibition was held on the island of Djurgarden and many of the structures still exist including the Djurgardsbron bridge Skansens Bergbana funicular railway now in the Skansen open-air museum and zoo and the Nordic Museum. Sadly Ferdinand Boberg’s famed 16820 square meter exposition hall with cupola and 4 minarets was demolished after the Exposition. No copies in Worldcat.
