A fantastic chromolithograph birds-eye promotional trade card issued by the Clark & Co. Hardware from Buffalo New York who embraced the international flavor of the 1876 Centennial by advertising in four different languages. Potsdamer & Co. operated from the mid 1870’s until Ketterlinus acquired the firm in 1885 and has as stage framing the miniature birds-eye the Machinery Hall Government Building Agricultural Building Art Gallery Women’s Pavilion and the expansive Main Building. The verso with signed inscription from Walter A Wood above the wood engraving and the date in pencil below "Hoosick Falls June 14 1910". <br /> <br /> Trade card most likely made for the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893 held in Chicago to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Columbus's landing in the New World. Two original albumen stereoview photographs sized 6 x 3 in. mounted on pink-tinted studio board sized 7 x 3.5 in. photographer’s imprint & captions in blank alongside image and on verso former ownership markings in Spanish on one minor soiling to fore-edges of 2nd image some shelfwear still VG- exemplars from the library of Prof. Marvin Nathan. Two scarce original albumen stereoview photographs of livestock and horse tricks at the 1895 Cotton States & International Exposition which featured the resurgence of the “New South†including the first pavilion sponsored for and by African-Americans the Atlanta Negro Building which covered 25000 square feet and was filled with exhibits of Black workers artists authors and introduced by a Jubilee Singers performances. Unfortunately their accomplishments were largely overshadowed by Booker T. Washington’s notorious “Atlanta Compromise†speech which opened the Fair counseling African-Americans to seek economic security before political or social equality. Benjamin Kilburn 1827-1909. and his brother Edward b. 1830 initially operated their business together until Edward retired in the 1870’s and by 1872 they had a large photographic stereoview card factory one block from the Littleton trains station. Young salesmen carried the stereoviews on the trains and by the early 20th-Century the company was the most extensive producer of stereoview photographs purchasing images from such photographers as William H. Two view-master reels. sized 3.5 in. in diameter each w/ 14 colour slides creating 7 stereo images each both preserved in original sleeves from the library of Prof. Marvin Nathan. First edition of these delightful View-Master reels depicting the 1940 Golden Gate International Exposition in day and night in 3-D. Gruber 1903-1965 was the inventor of the View-Master three-dimensional photographs issuing famed works on Chinese Art Mushrooms and many other subjects. Sawyer Photo Service’s developed the View-Master products invented by Gruber beginning in 1939 at the New York World’s Fair. In 1966 after Gruber’s death General Aniline & Film GAF Corp. acquired Sawyer’s and View-Master moved beyond educational products and began heavily marketing more child-friendly subjects. The pictorial maps were issued separately as well as with the “Official Guide Books.†Ruth Taylor White’s 1902-1985 delightful pictographic maps or cartographs included depictions of the Territory of Hawaii in which she had driven or traveled to every corner of the Islands and the Grand Canyon for her for her brother’s book “Grand Canyon Country.†Later Little Brown requested an entire atlas which was published as the very scarce Our U.S.A. “A gay geography.†Her cartographs influenced the style of American cartographic illustration for decades afterwards. This was the time of the famous "Kitchen Debate" between Khruschev and Nixon ; the previous owner has written "July 1959" on the title page. Nixon's itinerary for that month included his arrival on July 23 his visit to the Chaikovsky St. Market on July 24th followed by Nixon' s tour or Russia which began on July 27th; on this trip Robert Webster of the Rand Corporation suddenly chose to defect to the Soviet Union on July 11 and Lee Harvey Oswald attempts to contact members of the Exhibition while in Russia ; with a few notes by the owner of the book detailing events on the trip particularly to the State Department Store during the first week of July; a very interesting memento of a significant moment at the depth of the Cold War ; one image has been removed and trimmed but laid back in ; FAIR <br/> <br/> [Moskva] : Moskovskii Rbochii, 1957. hardcover
