This puzzle celebrates several of the pavilions at the Exposition including Palais des Beaux-Arts designed by Joseph Brouvard filled with painting and flanking the Eiffel Tower providing visitors; the Palais de Trocadero held over from the famed 1878 Exposition celebrating the renewal of Paris following the Franco-Prussian War; as well as the Ministere de la Guerre which featured an Arms & Armour exhibition as well as displays of knightly tournaments assorted uniforms and cannon. The Maison Egyptienne and Rue au Caire would fuel the Orientalist movement and fascination with the Middle East among artists writers and the industrial arts well into the 20th Century. These images include the an updated public aquarium featuring undersea grottoes inspired by Jules Verne stories the Palais de Trocadero the Palais du Champ de Mars statue of the Republic the Galerie du Travail showing stoves weaving machines and more; as well as the statuary in the Grande Galerie Italienne. Etienne Neurdein 1832-after 1915 and his brother Louis Antonin 1840-after 1915 were intrepid traveling photographers throughout French Northern Africa particularly the Sahara and Algeria in the 1870’s and also known for portraiture and monuments photos. They were later awarded the status as official photographers of both 1889 and 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle. This small brochure highlights the Port Arthur Sea Battle Exhibition Hall a pavilion featured at the 1910 Kansai Fuken Rengo Kyoshinkai 10th Kansai Prefectural Joint Exposition held at Tsurumai Park in Nagoya from March to June 1910. Attracting over 2.6 million visitors the exhibition showcased diorama models of the battle operated by newly imported electrical machines from the United States. The brochure emphasises the immersive experience suggesting spectators would feel transported to the heart of the conflict. Entrance fees are also listed. A fine 'presentation copy' of the detailed catalogue produced for the 1911 Scottish Exhibition of natural history art and industry held in Glasgow. The first trade edition was issued in two volumes shortly afterwards. The third of four international exhibitions held in Glasgow during the late Victorian period the fair which attracted over 9.3 million visitors featured numerous cultural and industrial artefacts but drew criticism for its inclusion of human exhibits including a 'village' of Highlanders and displays of people from Lapland and West Africa including several children. An original vernacular souvenir photo album created by an unknown amateur photographer documenting their tour of the famed 1904 St. Louis World Louisiana Exposition World’s Fair using their own camera -- typically after paying an entrance fee as inaugurated at the 1893 Columbia Exposition over 10 years before. The album opens with views of the Palace of Liberal Arts Festival Hall and the fountains Terrace of the States Electricity Palace Education and more. Along with many of the general public fair-goers these photographs reflect a fascination with the ethnological “Human Zoo†exhibits at the Exposition including the Igarrote-Filipino Village with one young child striding in the fore-ground the Philippine Restaurant and view of the Village with huts temple and walled city. Also featured are a few of the Japanese tea garden and pavilion and the Chinese temple exterior and interior. The photographer also captured the Life-Saver’s Exhibit by the Lifesaving Service; the Jefferson City Guards marching in front of the Austria & Sweden Buildings as well as the entrance to “the Pike†with visits to the Japanese Roof Garden Restaurant Beer Garden and German Coffee House.
